  1. All of this makes me thank God that I retired... The problem with Revit is that architectural firms do not hire NASA Engineers to do their CAD work and they aren't going to start doing so anytime soon. I've never met any architect that can or wants to think the way a person has to think to create near-flawless 3D architectural models for use in high quality visualizations, or even come close - especially in Revit. Mostly they are happy if they can get a reasonable set of CD's out of it. No offense to anyone but think back a few years - teams couldn't even produce 2D plans that didn't contain errors and/or omissions but now we're supposed to believe those same teams are going to be able to create excellent Revit models... Everyone knows - you just push a button and the computer does it. Too many things have to be perfect to make it all work the way people dream it can, if only...
  2. Our (America's) media lies to us, our politicians lie to us, and our business leaders lie to us - all to have power over the lives of people they hate, and make themselves richer. Why should architects be any different? Humans are the meanest s.o.b.'s on the planet.
  3. I avoid everything Chinese and Russian as much as that is humanly possible, in every aspect of my life. Also, the last time I stepped into a Walmart was 1998 - yes, for real. Rant off this is probably a taboo topic.
  4. I miss the good ole days of CGArchitect. Learned much and saw many really great renderings. I do not have a fakebook account.
  5. Well after digging a little bit deeper into Twinmotion, I have to admit, I am impressed - it isn't a Velvet Elvis class rendering but it is pretty darned fast.
  6. I've been hearing about this Twinmotion thing, so I started reading, and looking at examples, and I downloaded the trial and played with it a while. Frankly... the scenes look like... well... cartoon/video-game environments with a SketchUp model dropped in. It will likely appeal to youthful rendering artists that grew up playing video games, but the renders look like cartoons. I am sure that it will fill a niche for very fast low-cost renderings. Hey, it's a Walmart world!
  7. I've been using SketchUp since 2002 when it was owned by @LastSoftware - they created the first version of SketchUp in 1999... It is phenomenal for creating accurate architectural models, fast, and as other have said, with a few extensions, you will be surprised what SketchUp can do.
  8. As always, cray-cray! You sure know your stuff!
  9. So - I had a very disappointing experience with the ASUS motherboard. Long story short they are not what they used to be in terms of quality or customer service; I would not buy one again. I replaced it with a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS Ultra which has been rock solid. Added something called StatMenu8 to Windows 10 - FAN-TASTIC! Windows 7 Classic start menu! ? Beautiful lil computer. The LG monitors are something else!
  10. I have a SONY SDM-S204 20" monitor that is at least twice as old as the HP ZR24w - and it looks better than the HP! The HP looks yellow even after calibration. Interesting how things change...
  11. I can't take it! I ordered a new monitor for the old machina - not an exact twin but it will do: LG 27GN750-B 27 Inch Full HD 1ms and 240HZ Monitor with G-SYNC (old computer has NVIDIA GTX 980 so it will run it). Geez that old HP is tired.
  12. I just built a new computer - consisting of: ASUS Prime Z390-A Intel i9-9900KF Cooler Master MA620P CPU cooler Intel 665p M.2 1TB SSD (OS) Intel 665p M.2 1TB SSD (DATA) NVIDIA RTX 2060 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x16GB) DDR4 3600 Antec HCG850W Gold Windows 10 Professional LG 27GL83A-B QHD G-SYNC (Any thoughts appreciated) The real surprise is the monitor. By necessity I have to keep my old computer running and so have it SXS my new build. The LG sitting next to the HP ZR24w that AJLynn recommended, 8-years ago, it is stunning how badly the HP has degraded, and I now suspect that the monitor may be the cause of some eye fatigue I have recently attributed to growing older than dirt... I think I am going to have to buy a second LG monitor for the old computer. What a difference a monitor makes!
  13. I've been in my business (construction document production) for 35-years and here is what I have learned: It's a Walmart world, to my utter a complete horror.
