  1. Something important to think about is not only the quality of render but the type of work you do, sometimes a company will be interested in you because you show potential on projects they work on. For example industrial design company likes your work because lots of examples of images of product design or automotive. Make no mistake quality of lighting and modelling etc, is important but first get in the mind of you employer and think about the content they want to see, the rest is practice at using the tools Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Lmao this is classic! Working internally in design office as visualiser for many years, my all time classic! The colours are not like the sample, which were scanned in made tileable and colour correct.... but they want a moody dark lighting scene, hence physics tend to change the lighting look! You then asked to colour correct in Photoshop, with architect standing and telling you what to change... To finish off with "ok all the colours are 100% now re render because it doesn't look real any more"..... Wtf.... Well could be because we just painted unrealistic flat colour across the scene. I think the reality of politics in design studios is you will always get that one guy who feels if he doesn't say something, then he is not add value. Enjoyed this topic guys, nice one! Hang in there stay positive and sometimes just take a break and go have a beer.. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Was quite cool company called Simmersion doing something similar using http://www.simurban.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Well done!!! Awesome! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Chris, Very cool video again. We didn't speak to chaos group as we felt we didn't have the power required to get quick results with GPU as seen in demos before, hence 2hours still with grain, so didn't want to waste anyone's time. Granted that's our problem as we not working with you guys to get GPU working for our workflow, so we take responsibility for that. I can't speak for everyone on the forum, but if I had to talk about what normally happens in our studio. When we under pressure to get projects out we will try something new on a live project as a test. If it doesn't work such as GPU in this case, we will revert back to old workflow, because we know we will get the results to get the project done. From that point we parked GPU, as we felt we were not ready for it as we don't have the hardware under our desks. I am happy in next few weeks to have a teamviewer session with chaos group to discuss hardware specs and work on the file to see if there is something we doing wrong with GPU, the key for us is we will only consider to introduce it into our workflow when we confident it's faster then our past techniques. Ultimately we will use GPU everyday if it gives us the quick render results we after. Question, has chaos group done a survey of the arch viz industry to find out how many studios are using GPU 100% in their workflow, could make interesting reading and educate us on what's happening in our industry? I think GPU is on everyone's mind, just not sure who is using it on a daily basis, maybe other guys have better success stories of implementing GPU in their office? Sorry to make this topic all about GPU. The original post was about technologies, just find it an interesting subject at the moment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. That sounds all exciting Chris and exactly what we looking for, thanks for your insights into what's happening. It's just a case of what we experiencing with GPU now, when we got our latest Vray 3.0 we saw all the videos of GPU and speed then tested it out and was getting 2 hour GPU renders which made us revert back to our CPU rendering solution. Unfortunately when you have a team of visualisers to upgrade all the workstations to the latest specs and the cards are still too expensive so it's a slow process . For us we need to wait for the hardware prices to come down before GPU can be solid workflow in our production as we not getting renders in seconds for the moment, but I am sure it will come it's on our radar for R&D Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Hi Chris, thanks for your feedback and everyone's thoughts and ideas, think it's a great thing you trying to do by asking the guys in the front lines what they need. If I would want one thing it's simple but probably complicated. Photo-real rendering (GPU) in 10secs in realtime and accurate, no proxy, memory & shader problems, also easy to use one panel for settings. 1 button fixes noise 1 button fixes GI blotches. Chaos group should have a hardware spec made available for accurate hardware tested results, this spec should realistically be under $5000 complete build, anything over is pie in the sky, think the Titan is making that gap get closer. I know hardware isn't your guys core business and you can't control the market, but when you make the process a vertically Intergrated chain(Apple). As an example create a pc spec called "the vray beast", built and tested by chaos to get results in 10 secs, could be interesting, because what you test and guarantee we can get those same results if we also buy a "beast". Also no Mickey Mouse scenes, large production size projects.... Ok that was a bit off subject but you get what I mean ....consistency with software and hardware that equals results. Deadlines with clients are always fast and furious. This is becoming more intense and competitive. We are still required to deliver high end results regardless of timelines, which means TIME is always the factor. Our value will come from quick feedback from the engine, in order to get it back to our clients and work through the revisions to make the end product resolved & high quality. Our process must be more focussed on design development, art and less about memory, rendering and techno jargon as the client couldn't care less why our shaders don't look realistic they want results, let us worry more about our clients requirements then technically issues with the engine. Hope this gives you some ideas Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. If they static images, why not paint in Photoshop a grass texture over the current layer to clean up the tile. It's a quick fix but won't assist for animation Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hey Guys, a week later we still on this topic, obviously on a lot of our minds, I worry more about global warming:) if I can offer any advise from my experience, I have had for the past decade.... I was heading up a visualisation team of a large architectural firm. We worked with revit for architects, autocad for interior designers and max with our 3d team, we have seen a lot change over the years. Our companies strength didn't come from individual skills but rather as a combined front, together in collaboration, we kicked ass. What is required, is respect for everyone in the team, we all specialists. We respected our architects as planners, interior designers for detailing and they loved us because we had the talent & skill to communicate & sell their designs beautifully to our market. I can use revit, autocad & max at the highest level, but don't go tell the architects or designers I rock, I am going to take your job. Rather understand a bit about what their pains are on a daily basis and find a way to assist them to make the working relationship easier. Often when someone says that you going to be replaced, it's actually because they a threatened by what you do, earn their respect by showing your value & skill to work together. When we all come together architects, designers, visualisers with different skill sets we can achieve & create amazing things and create projects that clients love, because we are all SPECIALISTS! If you ask me what needs to change is our attitudes to working together, we work in boxes, I do photo real 3ds, I am so amazing, get over yourself... Think about who is planning, drawing it, getting council approval, project managing, costing, building. Look up and take moment to look past you bright led screens, to understand the bigger picture around you, we one of many processes for the BIG CLIENT. If an architect tells you, he is going to take you job smile and say but I enjoy working with you & feel the best projects are created in collaboration with specialists, resolving the problems. Let's rather bring both our minds together & kick ass... Then chew bubblegum. Sometimes if a person doesn't like or respect you, try your best to understand why? This is for internal & external visualisers a like. Otherwise just accept they are difficult and move on. I have seen the skills and art on this forum, you guys rock! I respect what you all do, some of you are senior or new to the industry but all offer interesting views and opinions. I think what we offer as a skill has less to do with the tools, technology & more about how we manage our relationships on a social level with people (architects, designers, developers) to take their project (pains) concerns away by seeing the clear picture and vision of the project moving forward.. Last point...people don't buy "tools" they buy You,, think what's unique about yourself & offering as a professional? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. If you like my answer then stop listening to what architects say about how technology will change and replace you job, it's always changing and always will, this is causing you to lose focus on your goals. Rather Focus on what you do well & have a strategic plan, evolve your offering then add value to your target market. That's not visualisation that's business it's ever changing. Good luck out there, don't lose hope we all work in the best industry in the world! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Lol, great video, yes it's that time of month. Instead of worrying about losing your job, rather focus on making yourself invaluable with the skills & talents you offer. If you think the skills you offer are 3dmax + Vray + post.. Well then you might have a problem, those are tools not skills. Great artists & visualizers always have a place in the world! 12. Not sure if helps but what about the new perspective match tool in 3dmax, we have had good results? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
