  1. I think getting involved with the CG community in groups, will help in many ways. Pay attention to those who are in the position you would like to be in. Commenting in groups and on forums, will enhance your knowledge (broadly and finely) and your profile. Helping others will solidify your understanding of subjects. Talk to those whose work you admire, and engage in conversation, so as to glean insight into the thinking and experiences behind their success. Avoid listening to the opines of those whose work is clearly sub-par (obviously), but be generous with your own knowledge. Have high standards, demonstrate them, learn in the ways I have described, and when you're ready to apply for your ideal job, you should have improved confidence, a matured portfolio, the respect of your peers, and some good contacts. I don't think having loads of profiles with various little-utilised social media portfolio sites will help much, but active contributions in active forums will. See you around the internet.
  2. Actually thinking about it, I think Amfeltec and Netstor may do products that allow multi-gpus to run from a Laptop, worth checking their product line carefully. http://www.netstor.com.tw/ Looks like Expresscard connection is available as an option: http://amfeltec.com/products/gpu-oriented-cluster/
  3. Indeed there is. Check out Amfeltec GPU Cluster (a more affordable option) or (for a nice tidy solution) the Netstor NA255A. Oh if you meant for laptops, that's different; these are for desktop/workstations. However, while the X-GPU (external gpu) market for laptops is developing, I've yet to see multi-gpu X-GPU suitable for laptops, although they might be out there.
  4. Product: The 'X10DRG-Q' is a high-end dual socket motherboard, for LGA 2011-3, for the E5-2600 v4†/v3 family, QPI up to 9.6GT/s. Suitable for a multi GPU build. https://www.supermicro.com.tw/products/motherboard/Xeon/C600/X10DRG-Q.cfm

  11. Hi all, I've just created a group that you may be interested in. Your membership will be most welcome. I'm hoping to get some knowledgeable contributors. The idea is to help more CG artists navigate the practical challenges of moving from CPU over to GPU, and once there, to keep up to speed with the technology available. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1797500417129685/
  12. What is NVidia Nsight? and do I need it? What do you know of this software? Do you use it? and Why? (Yes I have googled it, and it's all techy speak that means nada to me!) Insight appreciated.
  13. I've mostly used the Logitech Performance MX mice for last 5 years or so. However, I now use an Evoluent mouse. I must concur, the "handshake" grip is no gimmick, I have had rsi type discomfort for years, not just from mice, but musicianship too. (However I don't play much these days, and the problem only rears it's ugly head when "mousing" or driving.) The Evoluent eased this to the point that I am rarely getting that pain any more, so pretty impressive tbh.
