  1. actually I found a work-around. I made another layer in the exr document inside photoshop. I then convert from 32 to 16 and it asks me if I want to merge layers. I say no, and it converts it to 16bit without changing any of the gamma or contrast or colors etc. then I go to adjustments > exposure and, as a guess, dropped to 0.5 but maybe you .4545 would be more exact. cheers
  2. Full disclosure, I suck at figuring out linear/non-linear workflows. God knows I've tried, but I'm a concept artist so 95% of the time I just need pixels from 3d to mash into 2d workflows. But I'm working on a heavy 3d scene which is sent to a render farm and outputs EXR files. In the Vray Frame Buffer I have sRGB off and I get a my desired gamma/contrast in the frame buffer. When I save out as EXR it's like the sRGB is turned on i.e. really pale and bright. All I want to know is, in Photoshop, how to I get it from 32 bits to 16 and get that exact same gamma as in the frame buffer. Currently, non of the option in the HDR toning dialogue are a good fit. They alter the image too much.
  3. Thanks. I turned on clamp output but it didn't really change anything until I set it to 1.5 which helped with certain lines reasonably well. Max ray intensity was already on by default and set to 20. Not sure what value would be appropriate there though.
  4. Here you go, excuse small size (under NDA). It's mainly where I have a vray light material.
  5. I remember I had this problem in Vray 2.x and there was some kind of retract threshold (that might be a guess) which solve this problem. It's basically if you have a really bright light next to a contrasting dark area and it comes out really jagged and aliased. Since using Vray 3.x I can't seem to figure out which setting to use to get rid of that.
  6. thanks for the suggestion but that's not what I want. I need Railclone I think.
  7. Do you mean Path Deform Binding rather than path constraint? That has a twist on it, but it's hard to control (if that's what you mean by bank amount?)
  8. No, I saw that. I need to instance geometry, not just have a cross section lofted.
  9. it's going to be like sky roads if you will. Roads that twist and turn through a city. I guess think more of a roller coaster in terms of the path it will take. Supports aren't necessary. It'll have a fairly simple profile that may even just be a flat spline that's extruded along the entire length of the road. But I may need to control materials on it, so like a glowing stripe will run its entire length. For that reason it may need to be a mesh that's cloned rather than just extruded. 3ds max can do pretty much all of it except the banking/twisting part.
  10. What I want is fairly simple. So far I've been using Path Deform Binding. But I don't have much control over it. The two main ways I want to control it are: 1. to edit the segments (with PDB I have to go right back to the original tiling piece and rebuild the path/road again) 2. to simply have control over banking/twisting of the spline. PDB has twisting but it's a little hard to control, and you can't rotate a spline vertex to make it twist.
  11. never mind, units were set up as 1 unit = 1mm. Even changing it to 1 inch clears it up. just have to remember to make a new scene, set up the units, then merge your old scene in.
  12. Had this problem for ages now but think it's time I dealt with it. See image below. Had this across two graphics cards, different drivers, so it's neither of those. version 2015, nvidia gtx 1060, Nitrous in viewports
  13. I'm not sure how much info you guys would need to give a comprehensive answer so let me know. I just bought a GTX 1060 to replace (or add to for now) my old (don't laugh) GTX 660. Yet to install it, and need to know if I can use both in my system (as in, does it support that set up) but also, is it worth running them both? I'm sure if my CPU/Motherboard combo is insufficient, running two cards might not yield much improvement. Processor is i7-4770, under PCI-E it says max supported x16 I intend to use Vray RT for now. Would also like to know of another graphics card that would pair well with the 1060 if I decide to replace the 660. Again, assuming my set up could accommodate it.
