  1. Thank you all for your suggestions. Ευχαριστώ Μήτσο για τις συμβουλές! The workstation is a Fujitsu R570-2 with 2x Xeon E5640 and 3x 500GB disks. It had a quadro FX580 installed, but I replaced it with a GTX 750Ti. The machine is 3-4 years old, but at 500euros (plus VAT) I considered it a bargain, as I just can't afford a new decent i7 machine right now. I've seen an improvement of 2,5 times faster renderings times compared to my previous 6-year-old pc, plus it seems to be built like a tank. It cost me another 150 euros for the GTX of course... I'm not thinking of selling it, as it suits my needs for the moment and I might use it as a rendering node in the future. I was just thinking that there might be some clever way to utilize the extra RAM that I'm unaware of, but I guess I'll just leave it as-is. My previous pc had 8GB RAM and, like Chris said, I've worked for many years by trying to figure out ways not to run out of memory, so now it's time to sit back and relax, watching the memory usage on task manager...
  2. Hi everyone, I recently bought a refurbished workstation (2x Xeons) that came with 48GB of RAM. I used to say that no matter how much RAM you have it's never enough, but I realize now that I will probably never need more than 24GB, at least with my current type of work and software versions. Would there be any benefit in using e.g. half of the RAM for a RAM drive, or in any other way? My usual workflow involves Autocad, 3dsMax with V-Ray and photoshop. Thank you in advance.
  3. Good point, amer! But even if you're really good or really cheap, you have to make yourself known in the (international) market, as being really good or really cheap. What is the most effective way to do this?
  4. ***Sorry if this is a double post but I posted the same thread one day ago and did not see it published in the forum*** Hello, After 12 years of working as an architect and visualizer, both in-house in various practices and by taking up jobs on my own, I've decided to get serious about freelancing in architectural visualization. I am currently building a website portfolio containing 30-40 selected projects and intend to pursue jobs abroad. Does any of you get jobs from other countries? If yes, would you like to share the way you found those clients? Did you go for it by email marketing, phone calls, posted brochures or some other strategy? Did the clients find you instead from your website, by getting recommendations about you from their colleagues or by seeing your work published? Another important aspect is communication. Supposing that language is not an issue, do you feel that clients are comfortable enough to outsource the visualization of their work to someone with whom they will only communicate by emails, phone or skype and will not meet in person? It has happened to me several times to work on a project without making an office meeting with the client, but only with people with whom I have met personally in the past and worked again with. Thanks for sharing, D.S.

Supposing that language is not an issue, is distance a factor that discourages firms from outsourcing visualizations to someone with whom they will speak only by phone, skype and emails? Thanks for sharing, D.S.
