    mr proxy trees

i have a couple of thousand trees i want to conform to a terrain surface (editable polygon). Scatter doesn't seem to like mrproxies. Is there a way to simply drop all the trees until they align with the surface of the terrain polygon? thanks

    directx10 driver

installed a new geforce 460. when i select the directx10 driver i get elongated, rectangular vertex handles, my polygons show triangulated, and selected edges dont turn red. when i revert to 9 or open gl - everything looks great, except the resolution of my textures blows. using max10 design and any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. is anyone doing construction administration, trying to keep all submitals electronic and finding it difficult to manage / organize etc..? or has anyone successfully managed this already? we're starting to come across this more. contractors want to submit everything digitally, and to be honest, we welcome it. but we are struggling with the work flow, document management and file sizes. i know there are some third party workflow management programs like sharepoint or newforma. are people using these, something like it, or have you developed a workflow of your own? They are rather expensive - considering the economy and our unwillingness to spend any amount of money. so im not really sure of the best way to handle this. i have suggested - in house - the mentioned software. i have considered perhaps at least getting some on line storage space, perhaps through amazons simple storage, or maybe even building some sort of a server in our DMZ at work for use as a shared directory. anyway - if anyone is dealing with this i'd love to know what your up to. thanks. we have been using PDF as the container for our submittals, but are learning that DWFs may be more manageable in terms of file size, readability, and ease of use... although we have not used them formally on a project yet. we are wondering if it makes sense to equip our CA people with tablet computers and come up with some sort of shared directory - via internet - for contractors, architects and consultants to share. all having access to submittals and having some sort of way to track who is commenting, reviewing - or who has ownership of particular documents.

  8. anyone ever do this? i am exporting dwf from max, but the file keeps returning an error "file is not a dwf" when i try to open it. i have tried this with a very complex scene, and with a super simple scene with standard material.
  9. thanks Brian. we're a medium size architectural firm. we have 10s of thousands of photos scattered throughout the servers - over 30 years of projects. its difficult to manage for most people. file structures that may make sense to marketing don't necessarily make sense for architecture and modeling. i'd like to know what the most effective strategy for organization might be. i wonder if its more of a meta tagging problem, in terms of tagging photos with key words... project, project number, building type, location, etc.... is there something that people are using to do this? not everyone in our office can have bridge so thats out of the question, but what about picassa or another low cost option? it seems like anything we do is going to require a large amount of up front work - keywording images. i don't know, but other firms must have dealt with this issue.... thanks again.
  10. anyone use OpenAsset by Axiom? looks like a cool product, but what can it do for me and my coworkers that we couldn't do in bridge or picassa? any ideas of the costs? thanks
  11. probably because autodesk and others would rather bend you over and get you on some sort of a subscription based program.
  12. my brother gave me a dell computer that stopped working for him. he said if i could fix it, i could have it. i reseated the ram and the machine works fine. it came with windows vista home premium on it. i'd like to reinstall the os since his son completely loaded it with adult content and it runs sluggish although the machine specs are adiquate - but he doesn;t know where the install disk is. since the machine has an OEM product key on it, cant i just use any vista install disk and use that product key? and how would i obtain the cd? can i download a legal copy of the iso from someplace? thanks
  13. done. bought windows 7. no more woes. i actually like this OS so far. installed so much faster than xp, easier to set up. oh well. thanks for the help crazy.
  14. embarrassing, but problem solved - but new issues arise. excluding everything but the case (my ram was good - after testing it on neighbors machine) - i placed my motherboard on the kitchen table, attached the power supply, some ram and a video card to it. i jumped the "power on" pins with a flat head screw driver and voila!!! power on. upon close inspection of the case, the power button was stuck down. i cleaned it, released it and everything works fine. so, one power supply, two motherboards and a new cpu later here i am. i have a new AMD 1055T and Asus M4A785-M MB. i bought the Asus board because it supported my RAM and i wanted to re-use my ram. Upon Windows XP installation, im getting a blue screen error - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0X0000000A (0x00000010,0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80523e78). nothing is attached to the machine, i figured i'd use the on board VGA during install and attach everything else later. the only thing is my ram which is Crucial DDR2 800 (two 1 gig chips). This ram should be compatible with the motherboard as the manual says so. Any ideas on this one? im thinking either the processor doesn't like the ram, or windows xp doesn't like the processor? not quite sure whats going on here.
  15. i thought that too, which is why i neglected ram as the culprit. although, recently i had a machine that wouldn't post, and for some reason i decided to reseat the ram and it booted. as of now, its my only option left as everything is new...
