  1. Looks like the Manual flipping polygon feast it is. Btw I linked the image of the model above. Thank you for quick answer anyway.
  2. Hey all I am doing some organic modeling just so I can play around in free time. The issue is that I started from plane geometry and went to the extremes. Really like what I got, however now I cant add thickens with shell or extrude modifiers since not all polygons are flipped correctly. Some are inside some are outside and applying these modifiers just overlaps geometry. One solution I could think of is Displacement map. How does is actually work? Can I displace on both sides equally? Is maybe a bump map better solution since I only need thickens for presentation (rendering, animation etc). Thank you and cheers. https://drive.google.com/file/d/11wb0iQF0dljwAEcdyBArzxwqo1-6WMm-/view?usp=sharing
  3. Dont know why doesnt want to project the letters with ShapeMerge. When I do something similar to you it works, but on my model it doesnt want to. I tried copying and removing the shell modifier, still nothing. Dont know if there are some rules on where will it work and where not. As far as the proboolean goes it worked perfectly. I printed the letters this morning and they came out crisp and clean. Thank you guys a lot! http://imgur.com/IGq5vGT
  4. OK now after using proboolean i manged to attache the text on the surface and it looks much better then the last time. You can see on the image i have removed the surface that occupy the text. Now I will send this to the printer to see what happens. http://imgur.com/Eiza0f4 As far as Shape Merge go I find it incredible command that I didnt know of -.-. Now i tried to use it and nothing happens. Basically nothing. I click the Shape-merge and pick the shape and it just disappears. Nothing happens on the surface of the bottle. The bottle is completely sealed and clean. http://imgur.com/Y0ajwkX
  5. Thank you for all the hints. You guys are more helpful then those at 3dHubs Chris I always have to move the object once I put Comfort on it because it follows the form but never touches it, kinda floats. I must say that I never used Proboolean. Dont know why I always thought the Boolean was the meta command hence best algorithms. Francisco when you say Shape merge you mean the proboolean command Merge ? I dont really get it, because you said that I extrude after I merge. How can I merge a 2D surface, it would be hard to align them in the first place. And yes Chris printer doesn't like that. Actually its not the printer but slicer. Software which takes the model and slices it into layers for 3D printer to read the coordinates and extrude those layers. Now if the model is not enclosed and "clean" bugs from the slicer are inevitable. As you can see on the photo of the print, first 4-5 letters were fine while rest are a mess. Even duo all off them are modeled and attached exactly the same.
  6. Hey guys. I have a question about modeling text on a surface. So I have this bottle and now that i have finished it I wanted to put the logo of the firm on the surface. How I do it is simple. I import the 2D drawing in 3Ds max. I redraw it with a line and create a surface. Now I go on the front view and with a command Comfort a put them nicely on the surface. Than I extrude them and using Boolean command Union I combine them. However this turns out not to be a clean technique. Because I all i get is letters cut out at back to lay on the surface, but not actual connection between the two. Hence when I try to 3D print them some letters are read by the Slicer (cura) some not. In the links below you can see some reference images. I hope someone can give me a tip on how to achive this so that i end up with a whole "clean" model. Thank you Im using 3ds max 2014. 7. Which windows are you using? If it is Windows 10 the 3ds 2014 wont work as good as on previous versions. I head an issue where max 2014 was using all of my 30GB of ram on Windows 10. When I switched on Windows 7 it was working fine and I didn need more then 10gb of ram. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Operating-system-compatibility-for-Autodesk-3ds-Max-and-Autodesk-3ds-Max-Design.html
  8. Thanks Chris. It worked just fine, I guess i didnt know enough about direct light. I tried to solve it by increassing gamma and overall multiplier to soften the shadows and hence make them almost none visible. However moving the source much further from the scene was much easier. I never heard of that technique before, I guess Ill try it. I was constantly messing with the hdri settings and never seem to achive the sharp shadows that people talk about. Thanks for the tip
  9. I have this big scene with around 24 houses and I set it up with HDRI lighting, but wanted a bit more control so I added Direct Light. The problem is that I cant align the shadows on the whole scene. For example the HDRI and Direct light are perfectly align on the right side but on the left side the shadows are quite off. I would appreciate it if someone knew how can I solve this? The settings on direct light: Shadows On Vray Shadows, Multiplier 11; bias 02, Area shadow cheked; Sphere Thanks
  10. Not trying to promote anything or sorts but CGI in this movie is just jaw dropping. The modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, face expressions, effect and on. I know we see similary or even better CG from Holywood but this thing is entirly made out of it. I dont see how something like this pays of, but glad to see incredible progression from their last movie. what do you guys think
  11. That is a great read, thanks. I actually used Area filter but left the value on 1.5 and at the end rendered at 6k and hence filter is almost none visible. From this post I see he puts the value at 2 with 4K images and increases as the size does. I also head a photo reference that I wanted to recreate here. I replicated the f value ISO an Shutter speed from camera. Used HDRI only and Reinhard color mapping with burn value at 0,5, but I will try to use Lwf with ArionFX in the future and see how that works out.
  12. Studio/Institution: myself Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3ds max vray photoshop Description: I want to have some portfolio images so that I can show them to potential clients. I worked on some Holland type homes and just decided that I will go full 3D with minimum post production on this one. If you have any ideas/comments and critics it will be very helpful and appreciated. Also I would like to know what do you guys think about this realistic style that I wanted to achive. Is it maybe the thing not to go too realistic and inlcude aspects of abstract and "unrealistic" in your image? Thanks
  13. Well I guess it has something to do with the monitor you are using. Im using Dell E2416H 24" and when i viewed my render in windows photo viewer or photo editing software it clearly was a bit different than in VFB. When I took the same image and went to view it on my Thunderbolt Apple monitor it showed everything VFB showed in terms of contrast and sharpens.
  14. I saw this thread and posted some of my screenshots. Both are around 100% so I dont think that is the issue here. In my VFB only color clamping and sRGB are ticked. And in color correction control bar everything is unticked. You can clearly see that the VFB has more contrast to the green area and better sharpnes. The saved one is PNG no compression and in viewed in Photoshop with graphic processor (gtx 960)
  15. I solved the problem by recovering my windows 7 version. Ram usage is now fix at 14k with high settings. Now i know that ram was leaking on windows 10 when using 3ds max and vray. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
