  1. Do you have a reflection override map in your vray settings? If so, is it set to environment? It kind of looks a bit like a reflection map set to cylindrical/spherical or something.
  2. Hi all, I have two arcs of different lengths and I'm trying to sweep a profile along them, but when I sweep along the outer arc the sweep does not conform to the length of the inner arc (and vice versa, as expected). A little tough to explain in words but the screenshots below explain it better I hope. I know it's possible to create this numerous other ways but basically I'm wondering if anyone has a way to do this in such a way that if I extend either arc, the sweep will update automatically. Much like the sweep modifier, just along both arcs. Apologies if a bit vague, it's difficult to explain. Thanks in advance. The two arcs: With sweep... yellow dots show where I need it to end: Sweep profile:
  3. Hi guys, Just a quick one... is there a feature or 3rd party plugin/script for Max 2014 whereby when I have created a group and instanced it, I can then add objects to my group and have all the instances update with the new object? Similar to how blocks would work in Autocad I suppose. Found an old thread with a link to a script called 'Instance Replace' which I can't seem to find anymore but something similar to that I think. Hope that makes sense, any pointers would be appreciated! Cheers
  4. Nope unfortunately not, and have absolutely no idea what the problem is either. Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that would be the case, bit of a pain really. I will look into your alternate method though, cheers.
  6. Hi, Looking into RichDirt at the moment, however I have some reservations due to the workflow we use in the office. We use Autocad for our modeling (for reasons I won't go in to) which we then link to max, obviously this has its drawbacks when it comes to mapping, normals and such, and I have noticed that Vray dirt does not work properly on imported Autocad models that are more complicated than a box. Does anyone have any experience using RichDirt with Autocad models in max, or any insight as to whether it will function correctly? Thanks P.S. I have no idea what forum this post should have gone in, so apologies if it's in the wrong place.
  7. Cheers Tommy, but it's sorted. Was just a case of resetting the xform. Think I was just having a funny 5 minutes. Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  8. Hello, Edit: Answer is to reset xform... don't know why I didn't think of that before. I am trying to create a diamond shaped panel for be used in Para3D and as such it has to be created in a specific way so that I can edit the size of the openings within Para3D. I have managed to do this but I am having trouble with the FFD modifier and the orientation of the control points. They need to be rotated correctly on to the points of my object in order to create a smooth paneling system in Para3D. I believe the problem is coming from the original rectangle, which I created and rotated 45 degrees, and the FFD seems to be following the orientation of this rectangle instead of that of the whole object. Anyone have any ideas how to correct this? I have tried manually moving the control points (which works in itself, but no with Para3D) and played around with pivots etc. but nothing is helping. Cheers

  10. Yup, logged in and posting this through tapatalk. Very strange. Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks Jeff, much better. Attachments still not visible for me on this forum though, I have to go on Web view to see them. Any ideas? Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  12. I've only ever worked at architecture studios so can't really comment to much on what it's like at a 3D studio. I've found it quite frustrating at times with architects doing their best parrot impressions, sat on your shoulder constantly making comments and changes, sometimes even talking to themselves. That said, if you are not actually an architect this kind thing gives you much more insight into the design process, which for me personally has taught me a lot. Deadlines are very tight in an architecture firm. The architects eat into your agreed time and as they're paying you and you're generally sat 2 metres away it's seems to be an acceptable practice. I wouldn't imagine that would happen at a 3D firm to such an extent as you would have a contract with timelines set out. That said, this will help you speed up your work flow so you may very well come out the better for it. At the end of the day you're probably going to end up working stupid hours anyways though so it's a bit of a moot point. We generally have lulls in workload so you tend to get a bit of a breather between these manic deadlines. Personally I find it a bit boring at times but each to their own. If you're going to an architecture firm I would check their work and make sure it's of a high quality, as having someone more talented than yourself will help you improve your own work in the long run. I'd imagine most 3D studios would have a plethora of talent, so it wouldn't be so much of an issue. I'm sure I've forgot plenty but I'll wait for others to reply. I think it'll ultimately boil down to where you want to take your career, and your own personal preference. Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  13. Bit of a bump but I am having issues using tapatalk on here as well. I can log in and view posts etc. but forum attachments do not show up and the timeline view does not load (I can only use unread posts or browse via forums). Anyone else having such issues or is this problem my end? Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  14. I don't have that particular issue but have plenty others. Does make you wonder how and why anyone would release something that is so buggy, surely they must have known?! Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
  15. Haha, that made me laugh @ george/nic Having only worked in architecture offices with architects who sit on your shoulder like a parrot, therefore know the process well, I can't say I've ever come across an architect who disliked this profession. In fact, it's quite the opposite. They've always very much appreciated the work we do and have seen us as a vital tool to help them improve and develop their designs. You would think that any resentment towards visualisers would stem from ignorance, "all you have to do is click a button" etc. Either that or just a massive chip on their shoulder.
