1. Tree houses are obviously a common idea shared among designers............. For us older patrons, .....we probably watched the Disney movie classic.. "The Swiss Family Robinson", one too many times It is apparent that the contest is bust.........still doesn't hurt to build your own. Maybe there was a thread on tree house design. But, I decided just to post a thought here. Assuming the contest is bogus, I have departed from the theme of a palm oassis. Being of northern/eastern European decent......my instinct tells me to build my tree house in a old growth Redwood, Pine, and/or Fir forest. I've been playing with the idea as a work in progress of using steel tower/pole utiliy to simulate a tree with roof/walls in the shape of a branch/foliage cluster. The tower would blend in with the existing old growth forest without having to worry about the tree growing, dying,.....etc. I suppose there would be some fire resistance depending on how far from the nearest trees the pole was set?. Realistically, there are host of problems. Cost of peir/pile foundation and steel structure per square footage, high wind load, I dont think I would be in the house during a forest fire, Insulation/heating and cooling. Safety railing and access (ladder needs a safety cage, with fall breaks)(not a home for small children). Marketable client, maybe a cell phone provider? Problem.....high microwave reciever/antenna radiation. Forest services or environmental audubon..ish group. Materials are timber, green tile/prefab steel roofing, and copper cladding/patina. Hansel and Gretel windows trim. For higher fire resistivity, aluminum or steel frame...non high temperature combustable composite? Again, this has been a fantasy work in progress......so the blank shapes are ....future construction
2. My preference was 8 to 10 hours overnite........... Start the rendering after everyone has left office.......so no one would bump the machine.........then get there before anyone got to curious and tapped something. Also, it didn't tie up the computer for next days work. Now everyone has two machines and three screens........ Problem was....something went wrong........you had to wait an entire day to run the next night. That's why I go with low resolution untill you absolutely sure of the final design ....or close to it.
3. Well....thanks for playing ...subterranean Concrete........ I should retire to posting in the Gallery..... Parting shots of SeaRidge.....reduced column diameter and lowered the seaward one to breakup the monontony of a four post bed...... make your eye do more work on the shapes in front....
4. Cue wave sound and sea gulls pooping on your deck........ http://www.flickr.com/photos/79580447@N02/7183503746/in/photostream/
5. Not Doric.....or Greek Revival.......but Subterranean.....concrete .....Pacific Coast Really vague......but its just a concept start....and something to look at......
6. Needed a center piece.......... When all else fails..........add a fountain.......public space monolith ....wrong period........I know (Freudians.......sometimes a cigar is just a cigar)
7. Another take........more detail community..... Doric order to match entrance...........and this thread Maybe more fragile to rock slide..........
8. Not to be too specific.... I have been lately in the Wyoming, Colorado, Montana area traveling and living. While driving I have had ideas of building on the plains and up against these ramparts and cliffs. Granted, this is all US Bureau of Land Management Land....protected and preserved from ideas like mine..... Project would be to build in this environment, but below the ground. Wild Fire is a big problem here.......... Fallen rocks and rocks slides another, and Tornados. Materials ...like concrete or Aerated Autoclaved Concrete I thought would work best. There aren't alot of trees......and it is a high plains arid site. I guess I am becoming part Praire Dog....or Fred Flintstone....Yabba Dabba Doo Oh....I think it still part Freudian........I assure you it is seriously subconscious.....not intentional....... But if you look closely....my cliffs look like a .....??? and the main entrance is a ????....accidental I swear. Finally, Disclaimer....this is not a dooms day ....survivalist project....unless you personally want to make your own.......please no " Men in Black" knocking on my door.
9. Maybe a little too....Bunker..esque First attempt a cliff community.......but safe from falling rocks
10. Yes...it may look like the discount computer game graphics from the late 1990's...... ...the one you get free with a purchase of gum at the check out counter.... But....it something to look at ....a maybe tweek a thought or two...... Cliff Dwelling ...Subterranean....concrete design....
11. Yes....it is really basic But .... (here comes a I remember the good ole days......when we use to have to brush our teeth with a rock....) For me in year 2002 and my Pentium II it seemed like a quick, inexpensive, and major leap..... compared to the old foamcore 1980's modeling technique
12. Drainage is always a problem with subterranean design.......... Haven't solved subterranean1 yet...and had a heavy rain Maybe just leave it as a municipal fountain or spa............. City Zoo ....seal lion tank.........
13. Yes.....I am using a scenery generator software from 2003 for Microsoft Flight simulator series. I was asked to do some airport/city scenes for a friend.......I bought Abacus FSDS 1.xxx ....got a upgrade to 2.x for a discount......in 2003 I tried to download some newer rendering freeware software.......but I am on a 2003 budget and computer......and DSL .... crash here ....crash there....download timeout ....etc... FSDS works for basic ideas........maybe I should stick to concrete sidewalks and curb stops.
14. Needed access to the Duomo...... Looking like a mausoleum......or an observatory? Not great.......to lazy to make spiral stair...... More for a cup of coffee ....I'm bored browse.... Developer said original Duomo was too much concrete and too deep for budget???
15. More just to have something to browse.......... a work in progress.......if that is allowed??
