which parameters are you referring to exactly? I havent changed the default Vray displacement properties... still set to max subdiv 256, edge length 4... it is so odd for a downloaded material to not work, but only displacement gets messed up

Hi, I dont know if its a setting inside vray (3ds max) that the all maps work predictably EXCEPT displacement. When i put in a displacement map it just deforms the object instead of following the black-white height map image... Even if I download a material and I know how its supposed to look like and havent changed any settings, once i enable the displacement map in the downloaded material it deforms the shape again, without following the height map! which leads me to think it is my configuration somehow and not the material itself... any ideas?? its driving me insane!!! not being able to use displacement in materials!

Hahah yeah. Well I was not expecting replies actually, just someone to indicate me where a thread like this should go. I will def. start another proper thread once I get the project more developed, by the first week of June. At this moment in time there is little to work with, although I have an idea of the view angle, what is shown, color hue, style, sky conditions (misty at dawn... with a filament of bright orange in the horizon contrasting dark blue night)...
