  1. thank you for your post. so for example if someone would want to have a renderfarm with 100 nodes he would need to buy 100 windows OS's?

I would like to set up in the office a small renderfarm. i would buy the hardware just for rendering and nothing else. -do we need a seperate 3dsmax license for every computer? -do we need a seperate full windows OS for every computer ? -how much GB on teh HDD does every computer need? the software and plugins that we would use: -3ds max -vray -Forest Pro -Phoenix FD(maybe) the reason why i am asking this today is because i think a lot has cahnged sine the last years. for example Vray doesnt have free nodes anymore. thank you

  4. i noticed that in my 3dsmax 2013 files bitmap pager is always off. how come? shouldnt the default 3ds max file have it on? i am happy that it is off. or am i looking at the wrong setting?
  5. is anyone on this planet using this program? there is almost no info about it on the internet from people who use it. no advanced tutorials and no info about their node system that is almost 3 years old. sometimes maybe maybe you read that a company used it for rendering movies,commercials and archiviz renders. but nothing else. whats strange is that there is no debate on forums about it. is it so bad or what?
  6. i can not link with xref materials from objects that are in a group. thats what i meant
  7. we got it to work now. apply xref materials to objects. but it works only with basic materials. i am wondering right now if this would be possible: car on the road -modeler models the car and road -lookdev artist textures and creates the materials (imports models and assigns materials) -main guy assembles the models into the main scene file (xref from the modeler scene and xref from the materials scene) we have comeplex materials. sometimes its just one material on one objects and sometimes multi-sub on one model and multi-sub on multiple objects.i think xref dont work very good with groups and multiple objects and materials.
  8. thanks. when you have the xref material in the scene is it possible to change the xref material to the normal material so that you can change it? i mean destroying the xref and having all the multi sub and settings
  9. you can move a xref material to another object in the scene? how?
  10. in the next month i am working with 5-7 people on a project . and one guy will do the materials and look dev. what is the best workflow for materials. can we use xrefs or containers to reference the materials into the main file for rendering? he thinks he will create the materials and then we will import all the objects.haha thats to complicated.
  11. i am using the floor generator for creating the floor. i would like to render out a big floor texture with many unique looking objects. i have 100 textures. i noticed that no matter the settings the texture never looks as clean and sharp like the original texture in photoshop or windows imageviewer. what is the best settings to render clean sharp textures? i dont need shadows,gi or reflections. just textures on 3d objects.
  12. i know the standard way to import a .mat file into the material editor. i think its way to many steps and it becomes a mess when you have 30 .mat files to import. is there a trick, an easier way to import very fast .mat files into the material editor without creating libraries? thanks
  13. is the vray mesh light slower compared to the normal vray plane light? i know that there are some problems with motion blur. is there anything else? thank you
