  1. I have a question, I know nothing about Maxscript (although I watched few tutorials).... Where does MCG fit in the whole thing, is it complementary to Maxscript, is it an alternative, or a substitute?...... Do I need to learn Maxscript if I know MCG?
  2. Hello everyone. I have a question. Suppose I have a surface textured with procedural map (noise, speckle, smoke etc).... Now I want to export this textured surface from 3ds max to Photoshop with the same coordinate. What is the best way to do this? I hope my question is clear. Akbar
  3. Hello everyone. I wonder if what I am trying to do is possible. The situation is like this: I am trying to learn V-ray (for 3DS max).... But it's really confusing, I just need to mess with one parameter, and the whole rendering is wrecked, from few minutes, to 4 hours and not so good rendering results.... So I resort to learn from the best, I use two methods: 1) See what good CG artists/architects are doing, and reverse engineer what they are doing. 2) Use presets in Solidrocks, which proved to be very useful. My question: I would like to have this: to export Vray presets to a readable format, any format that's easily readable, word/text/excel/html.... so that I can compare between my settings, and other settings (coming from solidrocks/evermotion etc)...... is this possible? is there a a certain script that would do this to me? the rps (3ds max rendering settings) can it be read in any shape or form, other than being reloaded into 3ds max? I hope my question is clear. Akbar.
  4. You've been very helpful pal, thanks a lot.
  5. Hello everyone. I have an architectural scene where there is a dome light that has a Vray HDRI map in it. I want to have a Vray sky as my background but I want the reflections on the glass windows to be from the HDRI. Is this possible? How? I don't have a sun in my scene, the dome light with the HDRI is the main light source in the scene. I hope my question is clear. Thanks a lot. Akbar
  6. It seems to work fine with simple objects, but what I have here, are glass panes, that have some of their faces flipped.... It does not seem to understand what I need it to do..... Because, I applied a simple test to see if the script did the job correctly, I extruded the polygons by normals, and everything is a mess... Thanks for your help anyway.
  7. Hello Everyone. Is there a way to automate the process of correcting flipped normals? Usually I have many glass panels, which are essentially boxes... some of their faces are flipped. I can go to the flipped polygons and flip them one by one, but that's time consuming, is there a script or a way that will do this for me? i.e. make all the polygons of the boxes facing away from the object? Thanks a lot. Akbar
  8. I really did not know about that..... Thank you very much, you've been very helpful.
  9. Hello everyone.. Is there anywhere an application similar to the RAM player in 3DS MAX? That one which compares between two renders? I've done a Google search and I can't find any, it seems to me a very good application that someone should have come up with already....I thought one can do it using Photoshop using a vector mask may be..... But I don't want to open Photoshop every time I want to compare two renders.... I am not sure I can use 3ds max to load not saved renderes in the history. Any help please? Thanks a lot. Akbar.
  10. Hello everyone. Being not so experienced in 3D modeling, as I have not passed the learning stage.... I always run into tutorials that say that one should model geometry in quads only..... overlapping faces must be avoided at all costs, booleans and probooleans are not the way to model etc. .... Is this relevant to 3d architectural visualization? I see the point where 3D cartoon animations and game design are considered...... but in architectural visualization, the only thing that animates is the camera (most of the time)... more importantly, is this relevant to rendering still images? If there is anyone of the experts in CG architecture, did you run into any problems, of not modeling in quads, using compound objects that produce "dirty geometry", not caring about overlapping faces etc? Thanks a lot. Akbar
  11. You're wonderful...... your tip seems to work like magic! And you're right, I have a bad geometry to start with (many unwelded vertices)..... So let's see where that leads us to. Have a nice day (night) Sir. Akbar
  12. Hello everyone, I have a question..... I would like to know how to align the normal of vertices in a certain direction... Have a look at the two images in the attachments: I think it has to to do with the Normal Edit modifier... But I would like to have a way to do it automatically (and quickly), like say to 3ds max, align all vertices normals to the Z world direction for example. Thanks a lot, Akbar
  13. Thanks a lot Juraj Talcik, for your valuable input. could you provide me with the Argentinian studio, a quick Google search did not suffice.
  14. Hi everybody, This is my first post. I am just wondering if the idea of rendering in real time using game engines such as cryengine is viable. Anybody tried... I would like to see.
