  1. I too would like to replace an aging laptop, but budget is less than 500 UK Pounds(as you can get a quad core for that, but would ideally like some kind of mini(pocket size) ITX computer with seperate tablet screen, normal keyboard & Mouse of choice, seperate dvd and other add-ons. Mainly for use in home as media PC / web, but could be used at gigs or in car or on travels, but would be nice if it was at least as powerfull as a dual core, if not a quad.... then i might be happy. any ideas?
  2. where to start is the problem, but as the water is your prefared problem, I think your fog setting might be too high, try .03 or .003,colour the water with the fog only not diffuse, the surface of the water is personal preference, but my opinion you need an alternate displacement on the water surface, combinations of displacement are even better, so you can have larger waves, smaller ripples multiple points, some regular noise, and some fractal noise for micro displacement, all at different sizes, make sure the water mesh has enough resolution for the waves, vray displacement will add its own resolution. get rid of the electric blue sky, and make sure you try the inbuilt sky, maybe warm the light up the nearer the horizon the warmer things look, trees ... get some better ones, or use 2D Maps/photographs or composite in some in. What rendering method are you using?
  3. I would say having 2 machines is better, I have 2 similar to your spec, as once you set off a render you can still be working away on the other, though you can still carry on doing some work on a computer thats rendering. You will need more HD space as stuff ends up getting installed twice. Though also more expensive for second set of certain SW & OS, the other issue is more noise, I would say dont go overboard with the components ie beefy power supplies, SLI graphics etc, my power supply on second machine was corsair 450w cheap & quiet enough. Graphics handled by 40 quid card, might upgrade in the future, when current technology falls through the floor, but its fine for most things.

Nice one, these computers will do that to you all. Dont waste too much time wondering what it means, just get stuck into the manuals and learn as much as you can.
  5. As has been mentioned use 2D splines first, and extrude, Not the Wall tool, though if you can boolean a square out of a wall then you should be able to do a circle, but it is possibly easier this with a 2D Spline....make sure that After creating the first spline for the wall, that you untick create new shape, so that subsequent splines are part of the first spline(or you can 'attach' them later, and you an also boolean splines to create more acurate/complex shapes), they must also be on exactly the same plane, then add the extrude modifier and your wall is done.
  6. Interesting choices, did you build this yet, the one in my quote was built for 410 plus Vat, it would be interesting to see if yours is 300% faster than my machine, as it is 300% more expensive. I will be building 9 more over the coming week, to start off a new audio/media facility. http://www.beatskool.co.uk XFX GeForce 9800 GT PVT98GYDLH Video Card $99.99 OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W Power Supply 69.99 Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 6GB PC10666 DDR3 Memory - 1333MHz 169.99 Intel Core i7 920 Processor BX80601920 - 2.66GHz 299.99 Logitech Media Keyboard 18.99 Hitachi 7K1000.B Hard Drive - 1TB 99.99 Prolynkz PLM-618 Laser Mouse - 6-Button 11.99 Pioneer DVR-216DBK High Speed Dual Format OEM Drive with SATA 34.99 Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit DSP OEM DVD with SP1 189.99 Asus P6T Motherboard - LGA 1366 259.99 Diablotek CPA-801 ATX Mid-Tower Case 19.99 Acer H213H bmid Black 21.5" 5ms 16:9 Widescreen LCD Monitor 199.99 1475.88
  7. Good Luck! I hope the hospitals are cleaner down there than in the UK, Left or Right...
  8. I just been giving out same advice to someone, so will post it here too... Why the 8200 over the q6600...ditch the Westerndigitals get Samsung 1TB's, everything else looks ok. OK this quote was for audio workstations on a budget in the UK. -------------------------- Link to the quote, http://www.visual-image.co.uk/pdf/BeatSkool.pdf I put together a quad machine last year, paid 167 for 4 gb of ram, bought a more expensive mobo, about 150, and a 100 quid case, and a 700wattPSU (which if i did over again I would go for smaller Quieter one, as I dont have crossfire or SLI), so total with monitor was 1000, there was a test on 1066mhz ram, and they reckon for the extra cash vrs speed it was not worth it...so 800 is fine and 4gb will cost 50 quid, a decent 24in mon is no more than 250. 3TB of samsungs for 180 (hell jut get 4 of them at 70quid each), these drives are great, better than Raptor's (IMO), I had a mate who swore by Raptors, I used to think He was a ****, because they where only any good when everyone was on SCSI, these days sataII raided is fast. I had a more expensive Mobo the ASUS IP35 PRO (or Abit)...I figured go for the best at the time, but it died after about 11 months....it was recomended, but anyway SCAN replaced it No Quibble. they have 3yr warranty on most stuff 24 Months on some. I want another system, before HyperINF' but want to go with just a cheap 50 quid mobo. Stock cooler is fine, if not OC'd but this q6600 chip is great for overclocking upto 3.2Mhz.... but I don't feel the need to, its doing just fine for my needs. it was available for 100 quid but its crept upto 150inc vat, Now the i7 is out the price should be dropping, but I want to get another before they drop it, I would hate to be forced to go i7 route. The graphics I have is only radeon 2600, its fine, there's a lot of bullshit around about GFX cards... ones to watch 1650, 1950, 2400, sapphire's, now I might get the piss taken out of me for recomending such lowly cards, NVidea would be nice for 3D, so an 8800, has been mentioned, cuda would be nice to have but I reckon it will still be a little while before it settles down???, but I was just reading an article about graphics cards the other day...I will have to dig it out for you..... http://www.hardware-revolution.com/mistakes-when-buying-video-card/ Anyway its all personal choice at the end of the day, hope it helps.
  9. I hear ya, but I think he wanted to use Max & Vray, but we are both missing the point, I think he wants to create a nice HDR IBL Solution with Vray, So with Ozone he would have to Create a HDR panoramic image then use that for the GI...Anyone done that? Would it be an improvement over a real Photo...Some are better than others.
  10. Long thread on Chaos but even though the demo looked great, it did look like there was trouble, perhps too good to be true? Is it version 2?
  11. Ozone only works with MR, but you could create a nice Backdrop with it, dont forget to keep your eye on Terragen 2. Also there is some new developments for atmospherics & volumetrics for Vray by ICube or Someone else, saw a link the other day, can't find the link to the atmospherics but here are some links to follow. Scatter but shows some atmos stuff. Hi quality (112mb) http://www.xn--d1abb4ane.com/blog/wp...catter2_hi.mov Demo video. YouTube http://icube.ru http://www.rendering.ru
  12. I wouldn't take a Job, if I couldn't use my art for publicity....I would try to be friends with the Boss (but not too hard, depends on the type of company & the boss) It would be better to work for a Boss that could actually do a good 3D render himself, that way he could understand what your saying to him...instead of just jumping on you coz it's not done yet.
  13. Ah OK, Muchas Gracias, pero usar Max9 x64, buscar Scriptspot una mes antes... Good Luck, & don't stop working on it.
  14. So did you do everything in the images, from start to finnish?
  15. So why not post your unfinnished version on Scriptspot.com or at least a link from there to your site...and why not a link to your site from here, please tell us more about what it does, and what it does that other things dont do in particular.
