  1. When i'm trying to make a new thread in the Work in Progress section i'm getting the error: vBulletin Message There was no file uploaded. What does this mean? Did I fill in something incorrectly? I tried it in both IE and Chrome, so it can't be the browser.
  2. Wow your render is great! How did you get that dirt on the concrete and what tile material is it on the ground?
  3. I've got that problem now too. I have not tested the virusscanner yet but i have found a temporary solution: Go to: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\[your version]\enu and delete 3dsmax.ini. It works, but i have to delete it every time i startup Max.
  4. Hi, im working with 3ds Max for a bit now and i'm having some troubles. I'm terrible modeling in Max, so i make everything in Sketchup. So i followed this nice tutorial of Peter Guthrie: http://vimeo.com/11134608# Still i have not managed to get a nice lighting. This is the result: Don't pay any attention to the materials, it's far from done. With the following options: Another problem is the grass surface. I'm lazy so i'm using the Autograss plugin. It's ok for me, but a bumpy surface would be nice. Thats possible in the options of a plane (segs+displace), but my imported mesh does not have these opions. Any solutions will be very welcome! 5. What system do you have? Thats the first thing the render time depends on. The main problem besides the polygons and system is the material. For the trees which are not in closeup, pick a simple material with a lowres texture, no bump, specular etc. maps. Maybe you have to pick an other tree model if you duplicate them a lot. I also recommend using a scatter plugin, such as multiscatter.
  6. did you already try VrayProxy? Because that helps a LOT!
  7. If you render you'll notice that the rendertime would be like 300h. It realy depends on your system and the scene, but you'll notice it's good enough after a few hours (at my very slow system) and from that point the updates will be minimum. I'm not sure but i think you can set a time limit. The best thing you can do is use Maxwell Fire for a preview (just to see how the settings/materials work out) and use the actual renderer for the real production.
  8. I might get the laptop my parents have right now: Dell Studio 1749 -Intel Core i5-520M 2.4 GHz -Intel HM55 -4gb ram -ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb GDDR3 -17.3 inch screen I i saw as well that i can upgrade it to 8gb memory. This a good system, isn't it?
  9. Thanks for the advice! I assume that if you overclock the 8120, you don't need the 8150? And wouldt it be nice to take 32gb ram? or is it just unnecesary much, or is the MHz more important? Ps: i might need a laptop for my study. It will run autocad and sketchup (no rendering), what are proper specs for this laptop (also cheap) ?
  10. I'm looking to buy a new system. I'm going to start my university in architecture (rendering won't be a necessery thing there), but it's especially a hobby of me, so i have a tight budget. I know intel is the best, but amd is soo much cheaper. Are their FX 8core cpu's good enough? or is the Opteron serie with 12core or 16core. So looking at the internet i came with this cheap setup: €155 - AMD FX-8120 Black Edition €65 - MSI 870A-G54 €85 - Corsair CMX16GX3M2A1600C11 (2x 8gb, 1600, maybe another set) €175 - Sapphire HD 6950 2GB OC GDDR5 €48 - MS-Tech MS-N750-VAL-CM (750W +cablemanagement) €100 - Fractal Design Define R4 Pearl Black (good quality and very silent) (i still have HDD, drives, screens etc.) TOTAL: €628 To me it looks well, but do you think i should spend a little more for something else better? Remind, its not for a job, its for my hobby. And now i have a pentium-dualcore with 3gb ram, so it will anyways be better!
