  1. Did you check your RAM usage ? Just check in task manager OR in the 3ds max "rendering progress" window. In the bottom of rendering progress window there is "Memory" usage. If RAM is under 3 gb which i doubt, then try to render with "override material" to rule out any issues related to materials. You can find "override material" in "global switches" tab of vray render settings.Drag and drop a default vray material from material editor into "override material" slot & render. If you dont understand override mat method then just apply a default grey vray material to whole scene & then render.Iam asking you to check by this method because raytrace map or any unsupported material closes 3ds max without warning while calculating light cache while RAM issue gives you "Unhandled exception" error. Let me know the results.
  2. +1 to Daniel. Most likely CAD has messed up with coordinate space. To cross check this, just open the cad drawing in Autocad.Press z ,enter, press a & enter to see how big is the space.Your drawing would look very small. If it does then just follow the steps Daniel has given.
  3. I've just made sliding window through "create\geometry\windows".I never tested it before but geometry came out so bad.Don't use it.Make your own.As I told you before, its a clear case of overlapped faces & in this sliding window which I've just made, there were 3 polygons sitting over each other.
  4. Hey Kristian, Sorry for replying late.Have you found any solution to your problem yet ?? There shouldn't be any problem with reflection/refraction override, it works as it should. If other object (i.e. vase/bottle) is getting reflected in the glass table then sphere should reflect too.Just check if sphere is visible in reflection. For this, just select sphere, right click & go to object properties and on the right side of the popup window see if "visible to reflection/refraction" is checked.Otherwise you can make new one.It shouldn't give you any problem.
  5. Scanline will render just fine even if surfaces are overlapped.Anyways, I found a similar thread on cgtalk but unresolved & closed.Could you increase the "secondary ray bias" in global switches to 0.01 in vray settings & render again to check if it solves your problem. By the way here is the thread http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=6&t=1033386&page=2&pp=15
  6. I think it is a clear case of overlapping. Can you delete one of those polygon(especially the bottom one) & check if there is another polygon behind it?? Sorry for pushing you but it doesn't seems to be lighting problem.
  7. Nice & seems very realistic to me.I am not sure if you already knew but there is one free maxscript available which does the same. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/rock-generator
  8. Hi Ralph, Can you save select geometry of wall-doors & share the max file ??
  9. I think this is all you are looking for.Sorry if i misunderstood your question
  10. I believe 3ds max, maya & cinema4d are mostly used in such cases.Out of these three, 3ds max is extensively used for architectural works & in gaming as well. Some companies convert your models in different formats for you to sell online on their website otherwise you need to convert in these 3d programs mentioned(export command is used to convert a model in various formats). If one is going to sell a model, you need to decide first whether it is going to be high polygon model or low polygon because all buyer are from different backgrounds. Some are going to use them in gaming/realtime viz so they will need low poly models with their UVs open & stiched together, some will need high poly model for close up shot so they look for details, some will not bother bout the minute details because they will use them as fillers, some will look for good textured ready to use models. If you check there are plenty of categories to buy from. In some cases you need to be logical like nobody will buy iphone2 but they look for iphone 5(latest model).A person who is buying models for gaming won't mind buying simple models in bulk as they always find themseves short of time but I believe the one who is going to use them in arch. viz will look for new designs & something which is hard to model & will take time. As for standards, these are main points which you should take care of before you start modelling or you can check any model & look for their specification/info 1)file formats & 3d programs with which the your model is compatible, 2)polygon counts, 3)textured or not. 4)UV mapped ? 5)Unwrapped & stiched ? 6)Some nice high quality & beautifully lit rendered previews are must to sell a model or atleast show the model from all sides.A wireframe preview will also help as it will show whether mesh is clean or messed up. 7)light setup & shaders included or not (in the native 3d program version ) 8)One should also write some more info about the model like below. "The model has real measurements. Render is done with integrated 3ds max mental ray engine. Objects are easily editable. Only in the 3dsMax file, lighting and environment are included. I also included a non-illuminated 3DsMax version with standard materials,(if you do not use mental ray)All shelf products are UW unwrapped. Real world scale." 9)you can also write brand name if the furniture is designed by one to increase your chances. 10)Never forget to read guidelines of website where you're going to sell them. Hope this will help you. Abhay.
  11. Hi Ralph, I think overlapping of polygons( door frame & wall) causing the black & white faces. Also, if you see, the problem is only visible in similar door object/mesh & nowhere else in the scene. So, check for overlapping.
  12. Do you have CAD drawing in there as well ?? CAD drawings creates these kind of issues. It messes up with world coordinate space.Let me know if you CAD in there so we'll talk about it more.
  13. Scene converter removes the raytrace map.
  14. You can convert all of your scene materials into vray by using "vray scene converter" command. That would solve your problem.
  15. Working just fine on my desktop.I've reset the material editor, applied vray default mat & converted everything into Editable poly.Try this file & see if it works for you. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86449065/wolf%20range_edit01.max
