  1. Hi- I'm looking for some constructive feedback. This is the first draft of a visual for a new client project- it's a dentists waiting room, nothing too exciting. The client has never worked with visualisers before but their initial feeback focused mainly on materials which I understand because swatches and website samples don't always render as they look in real life. However it also included this ''You mention this is a first draft - I presume you make them look more detailed and realistic in the next stage' I'm trying to be objective about it and not defensive so looking for genuine feeback about ways to improve the realism. It's rendered with Corona in 3DS Max. I appreciate any help.
  2. Hi, So I've been finding that when I save selected on objects to bring into another scene the files are saving out at huge sizes. I think its been gradually increasing over a period of time so I'm wondering if its saving any sort of hidden data as well but saving selected on any object, no matter how small or low poly results in 40/50/60mb+ file and I don't understand why? Can anyone help with this? Thanks
  3. Hi, Firstly, I'd say play around with your camera, the viewpoint looks a little high and angled too far down in my opinion, it might be nice to see a bit of ceiling and lighting. Maybe add a feature pendant over the dining table. The single IES light scallop on the wall is strange, as if there's only one spot light in the ceiling. Also the sofa's are letting the scene down, they look far too blocky. Overall though it's a good base but it looks flat, needs some post-production work. Good luck, keep us updated on your progress.
  4. Hi Keith, No, we bought the full version. I've just read on their Facebook page though that it is a bug and they're sorting it. However, there is a fix for it which works: - Turn off the floor generator modifier. - Centre the pivot in the shape. - Run 'Reset XForm' in the utilities tab. - Make sure it's below the floor generator in the modifier stack. - Turn your floor generator back on.
  5. Hi, I've been using floor generator for ages so was delighted to see the arrival of v2.0. However I am having a few problems with it (see screengrab) whereby the floor generator modifier doesn't fill the shape of the spline completely. Does anyone know if there's a reason for this or is it just a bug? Thanks
  6. Hi, There's a decent app I've been testing at the moment called Augment (http://www.augment.com/) which has a downloadable plugin for 3ds Max so your model can be exported straight to the app software. It's not bad but there's a poly limit: I think 1,000,000 so its no good for high poly models or scenes, this is generally the case I've found with 'do it yourself' augmented reality apps though. As I said, it's not bad but at the moment I don't think the quality's good enough for me to be able to present it to clients. I'm only just touching on it though so hopefully will come across something in the near future.
  7. You just need to click 'guess verticles' in your vray camera settings and it will straighten it up.
  8. Hi, I currently work as a 3d visualiser at a D&B company. I'm thinking about moving jobs so i'm putting a portfolio together. However, i don't know what the rules are regarding the use of visuals. Firstly can I use visuals I've produced for my current company in my portfolio because obviously I don't own the rights to them? If so, do I need to watermark them or something? Can I get into trouble using them? Cheers
  9. Hi, I've recently started having an issue with a certain file. I render using a render farm. The image starts rendering fine but its gets part way through and suddenly stops rendering the geometry, only rendering the environment background (which in this instance was just white) This doesn't happen when only rendering locally though. It is a particularly heavy scene as well, could this have something to do with it? Thanks
  10. Fair enough, thanks anyway. There's no reason in particular, just something I do as part of my workflow and as you said I can do the exact same thing once it's in Photoshop so it's not really an issue. Just something that bugs me.
  11. Hi, This doesn't happen all the time but occasionally get a problem after I've rendered and saved out my elements. I like to save out a brighter and darker pass to blend with the RGB in Photoshop. However sometimes the colour corrections bar disappears and the button to open it in the bottom left of the frame buffer doesn't do anything meaning I cant alter the curves, exposure etc. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix without restarting Max? Thanks
  12. Hi, I've recently had a problem with my render elements in Photoshop, it's never happened before and I don't think I've done anything differently so I can't work it out. Basically when i use my render elements they are affecting the whole image rather than just the areas they should be. As an example, I had several different light select elements but when I set them to screen in Photoshop, the whole image was getting brighter rather than just where the light was. If anyone's come across this problem before i'd appreciate and help? Thanks
  13. I've has this problem before. It was because the bitmaps were not linked properly so the render nodes couldn't find them. I had to go through the scene checking all bitmaps were correctly linked as well as any IES data and HDRI map and it solved it.
  14. Really appreciate the feedback all. With regards to the design, I'm only the visualiser and not the designer so with regards to the furniture spec, finishes and back wall graphic I have very little design input. The image on the back wall is part of the client's company branding so whilst it might be imposing and distracting it was not my choice. Corey, could you perhaps explain what might be a more effective camera angle or what I should take into account when positioning the camera in future? Completely appreciate the comments about the sky in the window view. I was not 100% happy with it but had to settle on it due to time constraints, if anyone knows of any sites or places to get good backgrounds/environments, that would be helpful? Juraj, thank you for your comments. I will work on these aspects on my next project and post another WIP. Thanks all.
