  1. I know that. My question goes as to how to achieve the effect of the rope coiling and uncoiling when the winch works. Using Path Deform animation gives me a somewhat similar effect, but I was wondering how I could achieve a more believable result.
  2. I am trying to animate a rope pulling an object through a winch. I've tried using a cylinder with Path Deform following a helix, but the effect is not quite what I am looking for. Do you have any suggestion other than using massfx to try and simulate it?
  3. In this case I wasn't asking about dpis. The client explicitly said he wanted it for web use. However, since he doesn't know at what dimensions he wants them, I was asking what resolution should I suggest him.
  4. Hi, A client is asking for some architectural (interior and exterior) renders. He needs them for an online brochure, but didn't give me a specific resolution. I was wondering at what resolution do you usually render in such cases. Would 1920*1080 be ok? Is there any standard for online work?
  5. I have a main workstation and a second computer I use as a render node. I used to have them side by side connected over an Ethernet cable, but I had to put the node on another room. I tried to connect the computers using a router, but it turns out that it is really slow and doesn't allow me to do a distributed rendering. I am now looking to buy a "cheap" gigabit router. From what I've researched I am between: - TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 - D-Link HD Media Router 2000 DIR-827 Does any of you have any experience with them for a render farm?
  6. I am thinking on updating my PC since my brother is traveling to the States and I can get thinks cheaper than at home. My current rig is: i7 3770k / Z77 pro3 / 8gb ram / HD 5670 1gb / Seagate 2tb + hitachi 320 gb I was thinking on buying a Samsung 840 EVO. Would 128gb be enough or should I better go for the 256gb? I’ve never had issues with the performance of the GPU, but it’s been doing a very high pitched noise that is driving me crazy. Should I go for a GTX 750 Ti Superclocked 2GB or AMD 265/270x ? Any other suggestions?
  7. Thanks for the info.
  8. The shadows have some noise, but those aren't as noticeable. I'll give it a try increasing the subdivs of the shadows. It's just that I didn't know to which parameter the specular noise was linked to.
  9. I am rendering a wooden table, but can't seem to get rid of some noise in the image. I identify that the noise comes from VraySpecular pass. Can anyone tell me what parameter do I need to modify to get a cleaner image? I increased the subdivs in the reflection of the material and VrayReflection pass comes pretty clean, while the specular still has noise. Thanks.
  10. I have two machines: i5 (2500k) and i7(3770k). I have connected both of them directly over their ethernet cards. When I try to use vray DR with the i7, as the master everything works fine. However, when I try to use the i5 as the master and the i7 as the slave, the i7 doesn´t appear to be participating in the rendering process. In both cases I activate the distributed rendering option and run vray spawner. Any idea of what might be going on?
  11. Hi, I am building my first render node and would appreciate some suggestions. My current workstation is an i5 2500k and I am finishing building an i7 3770k. I was thinking on leaving the i5 as the workstation and the i7 as the render node. My idea is to use vray distributed rendering. I would also like to sumbit works to the node, while I keep working on the workstation. What would be the best way to do this, backburner?
  12. Lately I ´ve been trying to do some motion graphics, so appart from 3ds max and vray I am using Cinema 4d and after effects. I would like to be able to reduce the time it takes me to get some animations done.
  13. Hi, I am always having a look at the forum thinking on buying a second pc as a render node, but for one reason or another I never actually do it. Instead of buying a render node, I was thinking if it wouldn´t be wise to upgrade my current workstation. I am using an i5 2500k with TZ68+. I know that my mobo can take up to a i7 3770 if I update the bios, so I was considering getting an i7 while I can still get the ivy bridge around. I believe I can sell my used cpu for aprox. U$S 140, and would have to add an extra U$S 145 for the 3770. What do you think, should I update my workstation, or wait and eventually buy a render node?
  14. I have a bamboo pen small and I love it. It certainly didn´t replace my mouse for general use, but it works absolutely fine in mudbox and photoshop. Before switching to a wacom, I made the huge mistake of buying a Genius tablet just because it was a lot cheaper. However, it only brought me troubles and was practically unusable. I think that wacom is the way to go, but unless you are using it all day long or that you need features such as pen tilting, the bamboo is more than capable to handle sculpting and texturing tasks.
  15. The only reason I was thinking on the 2600k is because I might get it from someone who is selling them OEM and would cost me U$S100 less than the 3770k.
