Need help to figure out how this was done

So I'm trying to find a way to create some sort of old/damaged wall that dont involve an absurd amont of time in sculpting details in Zbrush.

Then I thought I could use VrayBlendMtl to create layers of brick/plaster, and indeed it creates them, but there's no depth at all. The plaster looks more like painting than concrete.

This would be my first exterior render with Vray and I'm still not really used to it, so if anyone could give me a hint I would really appreciate it.

Here's the ref image, it's from ChaosGroup (poorly made) documentation about BlendMtl.

Well the more time you apply to any of these textures the better they will look, there is not a magic button. That's why you some artist spend 'absurd amount of time' creating those textures, so they look great!

Having said that, you could get good results using mix or blend maps, also add displacement and/or normal maps for fine details, the shader will become complex at the end when more details or effects you put on it.
