  1. I think compositionally, it's perfect. I really do. Nothing to me is out of place. But it doesn't look photoreal, that's where it could be improved IMO. Still great effort though. Jez
  2. Hi Christoff, I'm trying to get back in to Freelance 3DS work (after a fairly lengthy sabbatical). So I'd be really interested in taking this work if you are not able to do it. Though, first of all, where abouts in the UK is it ?? Kindest regards, Jez
  3. How do you 'anticipate' the overlap amount ?? Seems like I wouldn't have known how much overlap to set until I'd measured in pixels the strip marks and even then I needed to allow extra than it's actual thickness (i.e. thin black line was 1 pixel, it took an overlap of 3 pixels to make it disappear). Secondly, to network render that image was actually slower than my i7 doing the entire image by itself, I'd say that my i7 is about 80% faster than my other slave. So, I'm confused !! A net render taking longer than a single machine render ??
  4. Hi there, I'm getting back to 3d visualization work after many years absence and am trying some test renders (learning vRay, re-learning Network Rendering etc). The attached image is obviously wrong, can someone please tell me why these lines are appearing across this render ?? I'm rendering in a network of 2 computers, so they are sharing the strips - but from what I've discovered this happens when choosing "Split Scan Lines" which *has* to be chosen when network rendering a single image using more than one computer. I'm using 3DS Max Design 2009. Thanks, Jez
  5. I've edited my original post - it works fine in 2009, only not in 2010......
  6. Dealer has just gotten back to me telling me it's a bug
  7. Thanks Guys, I'm no nearer, I've taken a look at the options but nothing is staring at me that's obvious. I've dropped a line to my Dealer - hopefully he'll give me the answer.
  8. Hi, Going through the Tutorials (been out of 3ds a long time); Very simple question for all you experts out there - finding this a bit frustrating (hoping there's a better way). In 3DS Max Design 2010 - you've got 4 viewports (Top, Front, Left and Perspective). Imagine this scenario; ALT W - to view the Perspective view only (the other views were Top, Front, Left). You now want to switch to the Top view and have that as the single largest viewport viewable. If I press "T" at this point, that is indeed what I get, but if I then do a Alt-W to get back to my 4 viewport view I've now got 2 Top views (i.e. the Perspective has disappeared). This is not how I want 3DS to behave !! I want to keep Top / Left / Front / Perspective. Seems like to me that the only way to get what I want is from the single viewport view, to first do an Alt-W (to go back to a 4-viewport view) and then right click the Top view and them do the Alt-W again to view the top view in a large single viewport view - that's long winded to me. Can anyone tell me how to do this better ? Thanks, Jez
  9. I've just noticed all my 3DSpeedmachine benchmarks have disappeared !!
  10. Erm, excuse me, but the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 Dual 120mm Fan is the king of all i7 Heatsinks !!! http://www.legitreviews.com/article/880/11/ But hey, only 1/2 - 1 degree in it !
  11. I love W7. Coming late to XP from W2K and avoiding Vista, it's nice to get onto a new OS IMO. I like the eye candy (Aero etc) - and it was so damn quick (and easy) installing the OS, never seen anything like it before. Found all my drivers, all software works on it fine except Photoshop CS4, but I'm using XP mostly. My Mobo can be OCd but it doesn't come with easy software to do this, so I'm happy keeping all things stock (plus went with stock ram which was dirt cheap). What Heatsink have you put on the proc ??
  12. Hi Glynn, Nice spec - and you've started OCing already !!!!! Try some of the Benchmarks on 3dSpeedmachine.com (you'll see I've posted some of my results) - it'd be interesting to see where your machine comes in. Self building was a breeze on my machine and I've currently got it set up as a dual boot (Windows 7 64bit and XP Pro 64bit).
  13. Hi Glynn, Well, my subscription was a bit pear-shaped...... I got the email from Autodesk telling me that 3DS Max 2010 was ready for download and to go to my subscription center 1st April. BUT, when I went to my subscription centre, onto AutoCAD 2010 was there ready for me (but to this date I have never received any email from AutoDesk telling me AutoCAD 2010 is ready). So it took a fair few emails / phonecalls and pretty much anything else to finally get my subscription centre sorted out and working correctly and showing me 3ds max design 2010 there waiting - that day was the 21st April. Bit disappointed with this subscription centre 'system' (though remember I'm new in this area) in that the software is by now means cheap but the system is a bit clunky (in my short amount of experience). For what it's worth, I'm not 'expecting' any boxed copy - doesn't make sense to me, when they have subscription centres (IMO).
  14. Yes, I was getting errors when rendering. I think you are right, from what I've seen (and known from past experience), better to wait for a Service Pack, and in the meantime stick with 2009.
  15. My subscription allowed me to download 2010 (I came in straight from 2009). Are most people now using 2010 ?? Is it stable, or not ?? (I've had mine bomb out a couple of times and 1 blue screen so far, so I'm using 2009 for time being). Just wondering which'd be best to use at this current time and what other people's experiences are with it. Thanks, Jez
