  1. 1.Make sure you don't have overlapping planes. 2.Make sure you are using multiframe incrementals, As your object moves, the irradiance map needs to recalculate and add to map. 3. use High settings for animation for the irradiance map. Good Luck,
  2. Are you kidding me? thats the best laptop money can buy currently!
  3. Build it your own and safe lots of money or even build 2. Just to let you know, Dell bought the whole company 2 years ago, and decided to keep the whole company with its own image. Let me know how it goes. Regards,
  5. So I'm building 5 workstation based on these researched components: TOTAL 5 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU with Fan_socket 775 279.99 1399.95 5 Asus Maximus Formula Motherboard(Intel X38 chip) 269.99 1349.95 5 NVIDIA Quadro FX1700 512MB PCI express 533 2665 5 Power up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case 39.99 199.95 5 Sony DRU 190A 20x DVD/CD rewritable 39.99 199.95 5 Harddrive Seagate Barracuda SATA 80GB 44.99 224.95 5 Corsair 4x1024 dual channel PC8500 1066mhz 289.99 1449.95 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Total $7,489.70 $1,497.94 per pc The motherboard is based on what HP blackbird002 are using. I didn't go with the Core 2 Extreme since they are very expensive now, and I believe that would kill my budget. I already have a file server from dell, so all I need now is a few workstations for my employees. Let me know if you guys have some better suggestions in regards to hardware. Kind Regards,
  6. Wow Dan, thanks, I did as you advised and even one house renders superfast. However when I bring it in as a proxy, apply the material and try render it, the program crashes. And its only one house. I stumped on this problem and I don't see a way of fixing this. So now I did an STL check and I'm getting more than 1000 errors. Could this be the problem? The house was modeled in ADT2008 using AEC walls, windows and doors. and then linked to MAX. could this be the problem? I'm starting to think that I should model everything again into MAX with polys. there's 4 models, so this would mean like I need to go back to modeling and will delay me even further. Dan is there a chance you could look into my file to see what you can advise me on this? I have a deadline and I'm stuck at this. thanks in advance,
  7. I tried proxy the houses, but the houses looses all its textures. Is there any way around this?
  8. can you proxy a house? I thought only trees are proxyable. Is that how you manage all the houses on that lot?
  9. investing in render farm services is not a problem, we use respower.com But I can't even see how the image looks like on small rendering. So I can't work. However I'm thinking their might be something in my file that causes problem. I think I might have to troubleshoot the file. I don't think my computer is the problem. under the hood I have AMD Athlon 64 X Dual core Processor 2.01 Ghz with 4Gig of Ram I don't think my "under the hood" is the problem, but something in the file is not right.
  10. GI is currently ON, vray settings QMC 1, 2 Irradiance Map: Preset: Very Low -4, -3 HSph: 25 Interp. samples: 20
  11. I have a residential parcel with 30 houses, 4 different models on it, and the rendering times using Vray takes huge amount of time for a still frame 864x486. The parcel currently doesn't even have no cars, no trees. What would be the best approach to render this as an animation? use vray without GI, or use Scanline, or do it in passses? What about the big render? any proffesional advise is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Greg Lacle
  12. Nevermind, I found the solution for this. If someone needs the solution, just write me a message, and I will be happy to post. Regards,
  13. guys, I'm having some issues with my TGA multiframes when importing into AE. See Attached file. Can anyone tell me whats the proper technique to remove this issue? I'm using a different animated Sky, but as you can see, at the trees, you tend to notice the bright edges. Any proffesional advise is very much appreciated. Kind Regards,
  14. yes, 3dsmax9 recognizes the girders and ADT stuff.
  15. I could help you, but you must specify the following: - What version of Autodesk ADT are you using? - Are you importing into what version of 3dsViz? - Are you using the standalone 3dsViz? - or the built-in ADT rendering? Based on these answer, I will be able to help you. Regards,
  16. I have done this many times as well. I pay my surveying company to generate the contours for me, he uses a program called Surfer and the programs creates nice contours. Then when I get the CAD file I make sure I make all the contours a polyline and I import these into MAX on same scale and unit settings. In Max I generate the Terrain and then I export this to 3ds or DXF, and re-import back to CAD. For visualization something I import to sketchup to visualize the building on the topography of the property. There's also a very cool plugin for AutoDesk Architecture or Cad that is called Terrain which will generate the topography based on points. Kind Regards, Greg Lacle
  17. This can be easily done in ADT or Autodesk Architecture. The roof tool is very powerfull, but you just need to learn the tips and tricks. This roof for instance is a matter of 10 - 15 min work, with everything, faceboard and even the girders, rafters, trusses and all. Don't have the time now, but I will make a tutorial for a roof soon and post this online. cheers,
  18. you mean CTB. Don't get intimidated by opening the CTB and edited it. Its really easy. From the Plot command you can do changes, create a new CTB and adjust your screenings percentages, even colors etc. Kind Regards,
  19. the reason for this is, you have to understand how the level works, and how you align it so you don't run into problems. Order the Thomson book Autodesk Architecture 2008, it will help you understand levels. I hope to have helped you here.
  20. yes in that case, he would need to be proficient in business management, contracts, and scheduling. These type of architects are scarce, since most of them, is either they have taken a business major or management major as well, or they have learned it from experience. (the latter applies to me) I know a few of them, that are principal at a few firm, and the only way they would logical consider, if your firm has something better to offer. Let me know the detaild and I could ask a few of my associates if they would be interested. regards, Greg Lacle
  21. It would be a plus if he has experience with putting good contracts together, proposals, schedules, and has a good understanding of the business of architecture. Sometimes when you're an architect you have to delegate work and be good at micromanagement, since there's alot of things going parallel, and scheduling and management is a plus. I'm assuming you're hiring an architect for what purpose? What is the position he will be getting in your company? And what will be his tasks or what will he be in charge for? Greg Lacle
  22. - if he's licensed - if he has experience in different areas - if you like his style of design - if he's a teamplayer There's more, but I would need more information of what kind of services your company will be offering. Regards, Greg Lacle
  23. Flying hawai, do you have any good texture map to share. Otherwise I have to find one of thatched roof and take hig res pictures at the closeup of the roof material. thanks
  24. I'm having this problem and I don't know how to solve it. I saw this problem when I previewed it in Wireframe, but when I rendered at normal res, the rpc cars jitters, I tried several things but wasn't able to resolve. can anone give me some advice here? thanks in advance, G
