  1. Hello! I'm currently working with 3DS Max and Vray 3.30.05 and I've come across an issue that I haven't previously had. I was wondering if anyone was experience similar issues and/or had a solution for this. I'm using the Vray ExtraTex element to create an Ambient Occlusion pass with a Vray Dirt Map. However, when I look at the output, the plane lights in my scene are causing black shadows to appear on the ceiling above where the lights are located. Clearly, this causes problems/more post-work to be done and I would like to find a solution. I've attached an image of the issue for further clarification. I'm sure there is some setting I'm overlooking but if anyone has run into this issue or knows a way to fix this, I would be grateful. Thank you!
  2. Hello When trying to render an ambient occlusion pass in Vray 3.0 I just get a black screen I have gone into render setup>render elements>add>Vray extratex then added a Vray dirt map created a new Vray material in the Material editor then dragged the dirt map into it. No matter what setting I use I cannot get any occlusion pass only a black screen? cheers
  3. Hi there, I'd like to share a MAXScript that I just created and I think that might help some of you here. It's a MAXScript to render the AO Pass with white solid background. After the rendering process, your scene will be back to the state before the rendering process began, so you don't need to worry that the script will make any changes to your scene. Plus, this works regardless of what renderer you use for your main renderer because this script is based on mental ray and mr is always come in package with the 3ds max. the link: http://www.ariespranata.com/2014/11/freebies-maxscript-rendering-ao-pass.html the MAXScript is free, but I put ads on the link. I'd be really grateful if you find this script helpful and share the blog post instead of the direct download link. Cheers!
  4. Hi. I am trying to re-create this material (url below) in V-Ray, but am having trouble figuring it out. I found a standard material that creates an x-ray effect with falloff maps, but it wasn't nearly as subtle. I've tried ambient occlusion (V-Ray Dirt maps), trying combinations in several channels; diffuse, reflect, transparency, opacity, etc., but haven't come close. I'd appreciate any suggestions or insight. http://www.futuretimeline.net/21stcentury/images/organ_replacement.jpg Thanks, Steve
  5. Studio/Institution: Visu'l Genre: Commercial Interior Software: c4d,vray & Photoshop Description: i have been trying to find a style for this group of renders, came up with this... comments please, i need input!
  6. For use with Mental Ray Arch & Design materials. Provides one central location to edit Ambient Occlusion paramenters - Max Distance and Samples. I added a Dialog Menu and "Disable AO" button to an existing script. http://www.renderededge.com/2011/08/universal-ao-maxscript.html
  7. According to Master Zap I've been doing it all wrong. http://mentalraytips.blogspot.com/2008/11/joy-of-little-ambience.html Can anyone tell me exactly how they've adjusted their workflow to eliminate occlusion from appearing in direct light? More specifically, how would one implement this solution for an interior scene? Should we all be running a direct pass, an ambient pass, and an ambient occlusion pass? If so, what is the best way to do this? I need the "Idiot's guide to the proper implementation of Ambient Occlusion".."For interiors"
  8. Hi!!! I'm trying to render an AO image with 3ds max Design 2011 and mr, but appears entirely white. I've disabled FG, GI, Caustics and Exposure Control. I've deleted all lights and envronment map. I've applied an overried material with a Standard material and pure white diffuse color and a Ambient/Reflective Occlusion map in the Self-Illumination with 32 samples and max distance 45cm. When I try to render, the image is entirely white. Anyone knows the problem? Thanks!!!!!
