  1. Hi all, I've been contacted by a previous employer to do some renders for a project I was working on before I left over a year ago. The project consists of multiple pieces of furniture saved as their own solidworks part files, placed into an interior scene (assembly file). I originally imported the whole assembly into keyshot and made do with my computer chugging along struggling to cope with the tens of furniture items in the scene. I also didn't enjoy using keyshot for interior rendering which resulted in blotchy walls and uneven lighting. I would like to tackle the project this time using 3DS Max and V ray, possibly using V ray proxies to make life a little easier on my computer. Another issue is the models all have textures straight out of solidworks which aren't realistic, so i would like to re-texture each item with vray materials, and finally if i can do all of this, whilst keeping the layout of the furniture consistent to what is found in the original solidworks assembly that would be great. Having not used 3DS Max since I was in college many moons ago, I'm a little anxious but i would hugely appreciate any advice anyone can offer me on how to tackle this task. Literally any workflow tips would be fantastic. Thanks in advance David
  2. Hey Everyone, I've been using Sketchup for years for all my arch modeling. I use Revit at work but not when I'm focusing on a piece for visualization purposes. Recently Blender 2.8 came out and I've been reading up on it and want to start experimenting. Sketchup can be great once you have a million plugins, but I've been looking for a more powerful modeling software to take over for a while now. Does anyone use Blender (specifically the latest version) as their primary modeling package? Not talking about rendering of any kind here, just modeling. I think one of the reasons Sketchup is popular among architecture professionals is that it functions more similar to CAD based software than other modelers such as 3DSmax. Blender doesn't seem to be much closer to a CAD environment, but I'm intrigued by the new UI and functions and its promising future. Please share your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you!
  3. Hi, I was wondering if there any free CAD program you can suggest that lets you see the attributes (properties) of objects or lines that are created in autocad? I've tried this link on autocad: http://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg/viewers but it doesn't let me view/see the attributes. The files I am viewing contains information on the attributes/properties and I would like to use a free CAD program to view them. Thank you.
  4. Hello, I am fighting with 3ds max and autocad... My goal is to open object from 3ds max in autocad3d and then flatten it to 2d drawing or image. - whatever.. Unfortunately, this is more difficult than I thought... I have opened 3d object from 3ds in autocad3D. - But Flatshot option doesn't work.. and autocad is giving me into that.. "_flatshot There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected." flatshot option doesn't work even if I am trying flatten simple box from 3ds max. so.. is there a way, that autocad will start to recognize 3d object form 3ds max as his own..
  5. Hi, I want to build a system primarily used for CAD work. I am currently at University and I need a computer that can handle Rhino, Sketchup and Keyshot with ease. There is a chance I will need it to run programs like 3ds Max and Autodesk Alias in the future so It would be good if it was well suited to those as well. My budget is £900. I don't want to overclock. I want the computer to be compact so I want it to be a mini ATX or ITX build. The build as it stands- CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£198.71 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£67.99 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£51.72 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£74.09 @ Amazon UK) Video Card: PNY Quadro K620 2GB Video Card (£144.54 @ CCL Computers) Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 MicroATX Mini Tower Case (£64.99 @ Novatech) Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (£49.79 @ Aria PC) Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer (£10.55 @ CCL Computers) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (£9.79 @ CCL Computers) Monitor: Dell U2414H 60Hz 23.8" Monitor (£179.70 @ CCL Computers) Total: £851.87 (operating system extra £50) I am looking for particular advice regarding the graphics card. Should I get the K620 or the GTX 760 or something completely else? I would also appreciate advice on whether the psu is a good choice and would much appreciate any other suggestions and opinions or experience regarding the other parts as I am still a little unsure on some of them. Many Thanks.
  6. Hello everyone! My first post in the forum. I need to build my self a new computer have been working with my mac pro for too long and it is very slow. I am a Venezuelan Architect living in Phuket Thailand, i mostly use CAD, max and vray. I am not very good with computers but after reading online this is the set up i put together so far. 1- Nvidia K4000, i was also thinking about the gtx 670 but i finally decided to go with the quadro K4000. Now i think the rest should be based on the quadro card and the fact that the pc will be used for Cad, max and vray. 2- CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz) (BX80637I73770K) should i go for Xeon or the Intel Core, or the i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor instead? 3- Cpu cooler: COOLER MASTER HYPER 412 SLIM CPU COOLER (RR-H412-16PK-R1) 4- Motherboard: ASROCK FATAL1TY Z87 PROFESSIONAL SOCKET LGA1150 / Z87 / 4 X DDR3 / 10 X SATA 6GB/S / ATX. Should i look for Asus or other brand? 5- Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC DIMM (2x8GB) XMP (CMD16GX3M2A1600C9) 6- Storage: PLEXTOR 128GB M5M MSATA SSD (PX-128M5M) 7-Storage: SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.14 2TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB CACHE 3.5" (ST2000DM001) 8- COOLER MASTER SILENT PRO M2 850W POWER SUPPLY 80 PLUS SILVER (RS-850-SPM2) 9- LG GH24NS SUPERMULTI 24X DVD-RW SATA DRIVE (BULK) i think i need this to install everything. Can i use an external cd/dvd drive?. It is probably a stupid question, please forgive me! As i said i don't know much about computers. i don't even know if this motherboard or any of this are compatible or if i will have connectors issues. If any merciful soul out there can help me i will really appreciate it. Computer stores jere in thailand are not very good and they don't give any advice. Once again thanks and hope to her from you guys!
  7. Hi, I want to build a machine for CAD, video editing and rendering programs such as- Autodesk Alias, Autodesk 3ds max Solidworks Rhino Keyshot Maxwell Octane Blender Maya Adobe After effects Adobe Photoshop Adobe Premier Pro Google Sketchup I am split between the Firepro w5000 and the GTX 770 for my GPU so would much appreciate any opinions as to which one i should get, or any suggestions for another GPU in the £300-£350 price range. This is the rest of my build- CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: Kingston XMP Blu Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN851ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 MicroATX Mini Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Windows 8 Professional Student Any opinions on the build would also be much appreciated. 8. Hi, I am planning to build a PC intended for use with Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Autodesk Autocad, 3Ds max, Maya, Keyshot, Solidworks and the like. I'm not a professional but do video editing, animation and 3D design mostly as a hobby at the moment, but I am looking to study 3D design at university next year so will need a good computer to cope with the stresses of the various CAD softwares. The is the Build so far- CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM Motherboard Asus Z87-PRO ATX LGA1150 Memory Patriot Viper 3 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Storage Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD Case Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Power Supply Corsair 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Optical Drive Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) I am stuck on the GPU front, I have basically narrowed it down to the K2000 or a W5000 or a GTX 780 or a R9 290 but i am just unsure about which one would be the best for what i am wanting to do, could you give me any suggestions/advice on these cards? I am also thinking about going with x79 platform with the 4930k processor (if i can make my budget stretch that far!) how much do you think i would benefit from this over the z87 platform? Is it worth the extra money? Also if i could make my budget stretch to getting a K4000 which of the following options do you think would be the best 1. Get a K4000 but stick with the z87 platform or 2. Go a with the 4930k processor but get a GPU which isn't as good such as the ones above? Also any advice on any of the components in the build as it stands would be very much appreciated as well. Many Thanks
  9. Hello, i'd like to make full architecture rendering training project and i need CAD drawing for free. Does anyone of you can give me tips to have some .? thanks
  10. Hi! I'm looking for a missing step that would make possible, in 3DS MAX, to replace 2d/CAD element by 3d objects. For instance, you want to replace 2d chairs by 3d chairs, so you just needed to select one, do - missing magic - and then select the other one. I remember they were issues easily fixable with the orientation... does anyone know what I am talking about? I forgot to do that trick and I need help. Thank you guys. Best Regards.
  11. Hello! As my first tread here I'm looking for some advise on my workstation build. It's mainly going to be used with CAD-softwares like ArchiCAD, Rhino, Revit and SolidWorks. Usually this work also involves rendering with V-Ray for Rhino, 3Ds Max and hopefully Octane which I haven't used yet (any suggestions on good GPU-renders are welcome!). Budget tops at about 3800USD Here is the list at Amazon http://amzn.com/w/14JIXAPLSV0EF CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K - As I'm in no need for ECC and more than 4 cores this is a obvious choice. MB: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 - Gigabyte make good MBs and it's quite priceworthy RAM: 4 x Kingston Technology HyperX 1600 MHz 4GB - Should be the best and most reliable according to my sources. GPU1: PNY Quadra FX 1800 - Got a great price on this one; 1400SEK (about 210USD) GPU2: PNY XLR8 Liquid Cooled GeForce GTX 580 1536MB - Why the overpriced one? It comes with a liquid cooler for both the GPU and CPU which is great as I'm trying to build the workstation as quiet as possible. SSD-HDD: Corsair Force Series GT 120 GB - Has gotten the best reviews HDD: 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold (SPG) 800 Watts - Might have to go up to the 1000W IF I'm going to used 2 cards. Display:2x Dell UltraSharp U2412M - Has gotten fantastic reviews and is almost the best you can find after calibrating it. Display Port, S-IPS and LED plus 16:10 ratio! --- Less relevant section ---- Case: Fractal Design Define R3 USB 3.0 Fancy mouse: 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO CD/DVD: Cheapest one... One of my main questions. Will I be able to use both cards at the same time (Quadra for OpenGL and GTX for CUDA) and would it be the optimal solution at the price of about 800USD? Have in mind that part should be able to ship to Sweden or at least via a US-forwarding service (that does not mind sending as gift :-), suggestions anyone? ) Analyze and criticize, pleaze! //Olliie
  12. Hi all professionals, I am Chetan Deshmukh, a student of Sheffield Hallam University, UK studying Msc International Business management. I have to do a consultancy project for a 3D rendering company, basically, the project is to, company wants to know the Indian market through us. what are the entry strategy to be adopted and what could be the perfect price for the product and some statistical data about the companies, end users using CAD/CAM software. and which product is the leader there. Any help from you would be really appreciated. you can give any useful links, where i can get some information regarding the above mentioned points. or your personal opinion would be equally important. if you want to contact me through mail, my mail ID is: chetan.p.deshmukh@gmail.com Warm Regards, Chetan
