  1. So I am having some difficulty with getting clean edges to render in my scene and am looking for guidance in how to solve it easily. I am using a skylight and some target spotlights to light a mostly white model with a mental ray arch & design semi glossy material. And for some reason, when I render the edges are showing some nasty shadows/dark spots along the edges. Why is this? I have found that by raising the final gather precision to "Very High", it eliminates these shadows, but the render then takes forever. And at work, I can't afford this time. I am including a screenshot of some of my render settings.
  2. Hi, I'm fairly new to this - I'm an architect working on a piece of woodwork for a chapel I am designing. It consists of faceted wood panels oriented at different angles towards the center of a large crucifix. I am trying to have the wood grain in the attached screens to all be rotated at different degrees as if to radiate from the center point. What I have done is as follows (looked at a thread elsewhere from someone with a similar problem - apparently I misunderstood the advice): 1. All wood panels are editable poly. different Polygon ID's have been assigned to each panel, 1 through 8. 2. I have created 8 different UVW maps, and assigned a channel to each based on the panel they relate to, 1 through 8. 3. Aligned the gizmo's for each map as necessary to achieve the desired effect 4. Rendered and noticed that all of my work didn't do a thing. Can anyone provide a tip as to what I can do to achieve the result I am looking for? Thanks,
  3. Hi everyone. I m an architect.. and long time ago i was use to do the modeling in autoCAD, but as max is very powerful and user friendly i stick to the poly modeling. But from a long time i am looking for a simple thing which I don't know (is it really there in max? or its me who is unaware of it?) so please help me as I think this must be useful to a lots of people. now the question.. we know that when we "shift+move" any edge from any poly surface-- we got... i mean u know what happens. Now can we stretch that edge by this method till a particular distance?? I mean if we want an edge at exact 6" away.. how can we input the value of that 6". cause its very important to we architects to do those kind of things with distances. so pleas help me if there any way for this. If any questions about my question ... ;-) please shoot. thanks in advance
