  1. Hi Guys. I am currently an architectural retoucher. however I have decided to train up on Arch Viz and so started the process of learning 3ds Max, Vray etc. I have just come to the realisation the 3DS Max just does not run properly on Mac. Bootcamp or Parallels. The recommended Nitrous driver crashes and the legacy driver doesn't work so well with menu options sticking and random things not working. So after 15 years of owning and being solely MAC literate I have to buy a PC. Thing is...... I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I need some help. What spec machine do I need to go for running 3ds Max 2017. What would you guys get? What do you guys use? I need to keep costs to a minimum without scrimping on what is needed. Primarily this machine will be used for training on 3ds studio Max Vray and will need to run photoshop lightning fast? Any advice you guys could give me would be very appreciated.   2. Hello! I am studying 3D and although my goal is to work in the field of architecture, our course also covers 3D for video games. We are working with 3ds Max. We are on a summer vacation (1 week) and the teacher gave each of us a specific challenge to solve. Mine is to create a jewel that can be imported as an asset in a game engine. I can only have one diffuse, normal and specular maps. Over the past 4 days, I've been working hard on it, but now I'm seriously hitting a wall. The material and the rendering of Vray is great, but I am totally unable to do a good baking of the diamond. I know that once in game it will stay as it is (the gem will not react to light), but I would like and need to have something that is as close as possible to the Vray rendering. I bake the complete map of Vray and then try to put the right map in the right slot of the blinn, but the result is horrible. I tried a regular rendering of the texture and even a texture projection. But none gives a good result. The professor said that for every problem he has given us, there is a solution. And yes, we are allowed to ask for help since we are in a learning process. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what technique can be used to achieve this goal? I enclose a photo so that you can see ... Thank you in advance!
  3. Hi all, I have just started using 3DS max and Vray. Previously I've used revit and Vray which although slightly easier won't really give ultra realistic results which is what striving to achieve. Anyway I have just started to learn the basics and I am wondering what courses, tutorials, materials, videos and guides help you get better at the software? Currently I'm using Adam Zollinger's 3DS Max and Vray course on Udemy but some parts are a little outdated. And also I prefer to use cad plans to get more accurate models. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  4. So I have a 3ds Max file where I'm rendering a plan view using Vray toon. I have a standard camera with "orthographic projection" turned on to render the plan view and Vray exposure in exposure control. The problem now is that when I render the plan view the Vray toon no longer shows up after updating to Vray 3.50.03. Anyone know of a way to render a plan view with Vray toon in a Vray physical camera? there is no "orthographic projection" in the Vray camera. Just noticed that since the new 3ds max has it's own "physical camera" there are a couple of things you can't do anymore. 1.) You can't use this script to make the camera render an Orthographic View (http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/vray-orthographic-rendering-camera-rig). 2.) You can't render any kind of elevation in 3ds max with a Vray Toon outline. 3.) You can no longer use a Standard Camera with Vray exposure control when trying to render a Vray Toon Line effect with the new Vray 3.5

V-Ray exception UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Broadcasting NOTIFY_POST_RENDERFRAME Last marker is at ./src/globillummap.cpp, line 1932: GlobalIllumMap::buildLightMap() {5} Please note that although this error is generated by V-Ray, it may not be V-Ray that caused it.

I've just started testing out RT GPU rendering for the first time and I seem to be getting excessive render times (8 hours) to produce near noiseless images (max. noise 0.02) for relatively simple interior scenes. Obviously with optimisation vray adv can outperform these render times ten fold. I believe I have set everything up right in RT: CUDA, in process, coherent tracing, max render time 0, ray bundle size (512), Rays per pixel (128), Trace Depth 5, resize textures, disabled probablistic. I'm also using light cache (+glossy rays). I can see that material / light subdivs etc aren't applicable so I'm wondering what could be the cause of these excessive render times - or is this expected?? Workstation config: Titan X 5960X 64gb ballistix sport 3dsmax 2016 vray 3.3 FYI. We had anticipated using rt as part of our sign off process & purchasing another titan x but we're unsure if it is a wise choice now... Any comments / advice etc will be appreciated!
  9. May i know is there an update for maya regarding ggx for brdf setting in VRaymtl? i installed vray 3 but the settings in my material for brdf only with:- -Phong -Blinn -Ward. but no GGX. Any help are appreciated.
  10. Hi, I have a stupid question. When I check the bloom effect on, in V-ray 3 lens effects window, after rendering process, there is a message "No channel, please re-render!". I can do it in post-production, but I want to do it in the vray frame buffer. It makes me crazy, because it's the simplest thing I don't know. Please help. Thank you.
  11. Good morning everyone, I am sure there are people around having the same issue as me. I have noticed in a recent project that vray uses 100% CPU power when doing a rendering with override material enabled. However, when the render with the same settings is run, the CPU consumption oscillates between 40 and 60%, never reaching 100% during any part of the rendering process. It actually seems to me the speed is related with the materials. I await for your comments and I hope any of you helps to solve this problem and optimize the use of my resources.
