  1. Hello! have been a while since i ask something around here, finally i have all the parts of my workstation, just today my ssd came and now i have to start working in getting all my software in balance for working seriously, what i think to do is putting my two os in the ssd, namely ubuntu and windows ( i would love to have osx, but i dont really know the possibilities of a hackintosh in this laptop (m6600) if you know something about this it would be helpful too) all my important info in my hard drive and my most used applications as CS6, autocad, sketchup, rhino, 3ds max in a ram drive that i will make soon; so as u already realize i dont like windows i really dont like it but i have to use it till i become god in blender, so my question is about which windows i should install in my ssd, which one is faster, has better performance, is more stable and is better for architecture/animation software, windows 7 64bit or windows 8 pro? thanks to everyone. metta
  2. Hello, I have just installed Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture 2013, and it installed 2 versions, so now there are 2 icons (shortcuts) on my desktop: "AutoCAD Architecture 2013 - (Global)" and "AutoCAD Architecture 2013 - (US Metric)" Please tell me, what is the difference between them? Global and US Metric. PS. I opened both versions, and they have slightly different user interfaces.
  3. Hi I'v been working in SketchUp but am looking to construct my scene in 3DsMax. Sketchup just cant handle the scene when it gets fully populated. The SketchUp import isnt much use as all the complex objects appear fully exploded with all componant names gone, so you cant do any further editing or moving even though it recognises the instanced components. my question/s is/are. In 3DS max if i have say 200 copies of this retail gondola (in picture), and i want different attachment configurations and products. would you make instances of objects or would they be imported as xrefs then copied? If i want to say update the wheels on the fixture and want it to update on all 200 copies, how would i do this? can the same copy of an instanced object have a different material? Should i make a .max file for every little object then import them in and add to groups, then i can make instances of the groups? I can export each individual Sketchup object as .3ds or .obj. I want to retain the object name (which is the Sketchup file name). I just want to try to make this huge scene as efficient as i can, as at the moment i find the models ive made become too large and unusable in SU. any help appreciated, thanks
  4. I use sketchup 8 pro and some plugins: OpenStudio, SU_2_STL, su2rad_daysim_r03, SKP_2_DXF, gModeler, fIFC2SKUP for my work. Since I am going to buy a new laptop I am wondering if using windows 7 64-bit (instead of 32-bit), I would have some problems with the installation and running the applications. Has anybody tried to use these apps with 64-bit Windows 7? I would appreciate if you let me know your experience!
  5. Hello, I have this problem with my dell vostro 1720 laptop. I recently installed windows 7, and everything was all right until it didn't start anymore. The dell logo appeared after starting the computer then when the windows logo should have appeared, there was just a black screen with a cursor (like the one in DOS) blinking in the top left corner of the screen. Nothing works but Ctrl+Alt+Del. I tried to fix it with the installation disk (system restore, fix startup problems etc.) but it didn't work so I had to reinstall. And a couple of weeks later, last night, this problem reappeared. I suspect it is a hardware related problem (maybe the hard drive has a bad sector or something). Do you have any idea what could cause this? And if you have a fix for it, other than reinstalling windows every time this happens will make me very happy. Thank you! Best regards
