ihabkal
...for the rendereing? if it's a preview with mental ray that takes 30 minutes plus, or similar... during that time I post on CGarchitect, browse Dboxx's website and keep reconfiguring my dream machine, eat, and the like. What do you do?

mbr
Depends. I've got a few machines, so I can render on one and work on another. That's usually the way to stay the most effecient. In particular, I'll use one machine for post work and the other to render. Thankfully, I am using Final Render, so test renders are usually in the single digits, depending of course. abicalho
When I did renderings for a living, I used to sleep while the computer was rendering. Before that, I was probably working long hours to prepare the rendering, so I would then take the time to sleep...

Tim Nelson
When I did renderings for a living, I used to sleep while the computer was rendering. Before that, I was probably working long hours to prepare the rendering, so I would then take the time to sleep... Yeah exactly. I work work work until its time to render, & then crash on the couch with the tv on so it will wake me up in a few hours. Only during the ultimate rush's though. When its low priority, I go to bed like normal people. Lately though, when its rendering during the day time, I go outside and work on my lawn because its so nice out right now. A little fresh air is so good for the soul.
Ernest Burden III
When I did renderings for a living, I used to sleep while the computer was rendering. Before that, I was probably working long hours to prepare the rendering, so I would then take the time to sleep... That usually works, especially for a home studio. Except... Over the weekend I set up a few images for final rendering (rather slow under Cinema) on my two secondary machines, leaving the main one for more work in the morning. Well, my son, who just turned 4 last week got up early and decided to use the computer. Seeing some things open (the NetRender client and memory monitor) he decided to close them to play a Toy Story game. He's a very self-reliant lad, just wished I had taught him how to minimize something.
DennisHolland
Very effective. I correct/upgrading the quality of previous renders in PS while test rendering new ones in larger projects Final renders are always outsourced to respower so that's pretty much sorted now. I've got a dog and a forest behind my appartment > strawling and photographing cool scenes is one of the nice things to do while rendering (i.e pushing my hour-count ) Dennis

Chad Warner
I waste entrirely too much time browsing cgarchitect while waiting for renders. I like to pretend that I'm working in photoshop or acad at the same time, but it never quite seems to work that way.

Janzer v1.0
I try to hit "render" before I go to sleep. I usually sleep, and wake up intermittently to check how its doing just in case I see something that needs to be fixed. I'm still fairly new at rendeing (1yr) so I feel like I always need to check it out. And lately I sometimes play this copter game. Its fairly addictive so watch out....
