TickerTocker
I do most of my modelling in Rhino v3.0 and use Max only for materials, lighting and rendering. Most of the time, I do a 3ds export from Rhino and import into Max. But i'm having trouble with this method on more complex models, especially those with complex curved shapes and forms. a 3ds export meshes the Nurbs model and messes up the curvatures. Is there a better way to move geometry from Rhino to Max? Is there a plugin or a file conversion programme i can use?
jarrek
You can export "loseless" geometry to MAX in IGES format ( nurbs ). However you will have to deal with MAX's nurbs engine which is quite slow. Other way is to play with the advanced export options - you can get really good results with exporting i.e. to 3ds or DXF format.
Brolloks
We used to convert from Rhino to max as well via 3ds files. The only downside was very high polygon count. You might want to optimize the model once it's in max. PolygonCruncher used to do a much better job than Max 5 internal optimze modifier.
ihabkal
This is a problem that I had in 2002. Polytrans could help with the translation. But there is no direct solution yet...
pmanahan
We break out the models into smaller pieces, export the bits as OBJ or 3DS and reassemble in 3DMax. Try using the advanced controls and the preview button really helps also in Rhino. pmanahan
Victor Erthal
i guess npower makes a very nice plugin for exporting from rhino to max. but i didn't try it yet.
