After playing with the new hair and fur tool for about 2 minutes to create grass I came up with this. renderingd in seconds...

Pretty great from someone who has never been happy with any grass creation techniques...

It does shadows...

these were rendered in about 30 seconds, don't have a scene I am working on right now that needs a lot of grass...Im just saying I like it, just my opinion

That's great Tom, 'can't wait to try them myself...

But what if you have a "big-fully-textured house" with some details? How is it gonna affect the rendering time? 2x, 3x longer?

Can you post some example?

I'm happy that max have this modifiers...I love making grass.

"I had'nt installed 7.5 yet, but I really like the grass with the balls.

Any chance of some scene details? What are the render times like?"

well the the images with the balls to 30 seconds to render on a dual 2.8 ghz, 1 g ram...

The grass is a post process it seems, to the scene renders out and then grass is added after the image is rendered...

hello, am currently writting a tutorial on how to create a realistic grass ( also apply on hair & fur) using earlier versions of 3dmax like 5 or 6 , & it would give u way better results than using the fur modifier...but it will take more time for sure...i will upload it within a week....

hi edward...that would be a nice tutorial. I'll be waiting for it...hope you can post it sooner. I always want my grass to look realistic. but I hope it wont take so much time to render. and also if you can make your tutorial more beginner-friendly, so me and the other guys out there will benefit alot...

thanks...
