Greg Hess
Just wanted to stick my nose in... Under max5, most tests indicate that the gap between the p4's and the athlons are closing... Between a 2400+ XP and a 2.4B Pentium IV, the XP wins, but only by around 2-3%....making the difference in speed gap around 400 megahertz in the athlons favor. It also means that the rating system that AMD has adopted actually fits the chips performance now. However this doesn't take into account a faster FSB or DCDDR which have recently been added to the athlon line.... 3dluvr is in the process of reviewing possibly the fastest systems available on the market today, and should have a full comprehensive review sometime near the end of january... The systems were reviewing are.... Dual 2400+ MP Dual 2.8 Xeon (Pacer Chipset, DCDDR, 533 FSB) Single 2800+ XP (Nforce2, DCDDR, 333 FSB) Single 2.8/3.06 P4 (533 FSB, 333 DDR) We'll be using XSI, Lightwave, Max, and Maya to roundup these tests. And I'll be happy to run any tests with viz4 if you guys can come up with a scene or what not. Also should be some Vray tests, as vlado has ok'd them. I've also recently updated the max benchmark page... http://www.3dluvr.com/content/maxbench.php Try to ignore the dual system results, as the tests are primarily single threaded bias. Or just compare one dual to another...the page will soon be redone with new tests, so its just a general gauge for right now. Also you'll note that turning SSE on for the athlons does make a difference...something xbit labs forgot to do.
