These drivers FINALLY add Refresh support!!! REFRESH SUPPORT!!!!

No more 60 HERTZ in !@)(&$!(&)@! games.

Just wanted to share that. We posted it on techbits about a week ago, but we've been going through about 10-18 techbits a day now, so they get buried pretty fast. (Were on the front page of www.3dluvr.com)

They are offical drivers...which have not yet been released on nvidias site. I've been using them for a week or so now, and have been enjoying the fact that 3D now runs at proper refresh rates :) .

No second LCD to test twinview stuff though.

Ti series.

  • 4 weeks later...

D3d is about 1/100th as stable as ogl, and remarkably slower then maxtreme. D3d was never really polished to a finished mark in max, and is generally regarded of the worst of the 4 possible choices to max in. (Software heidi is more stable).

Check out the optimizing nvidia accelerators link at www.3dluvr.com and hopefully that will help solve the issue.

Here's also a graph I did with the 3dsmax4 scenes (max 5 wasn't out then) comparing the various scores with a Quadro DCC in Opengl, D3D, and Maxtreme.

You'll see the main scene that d3d is faster in is the wireframes, but not against maxtreme. That tends to be the ONLY scene d3d is faster then ogl in. And I'll reiterate that with larger meshes, nothing is less stable then d3d :(.

I just realized I shouldn't have said only. :) Its also a bit faster in the 4views test. Ignore the multitexture scene...I fubared all the tests by forgetting to turn on multitexturing...Made a total ass outta myself. :)

Do a search for oglfx.ini in the 3dsmax directory. This file has a line which reads "Multitexture=0" Change this to 1 to enable multitexturing on the nvidia card. Ya I don't know why they disable it by default. Who knows.
Do I have to enable that feature(multitexture)? One more thing, The Maxtreme driver that Dvornik found is quite old isn't it? (1999) :???: BTW my video card is Elsa and I'm running MAX 5.

Could be your machine....try installing the det drivers the proven way.

1. Uninstall the old drivers using add/remove programs.

2. Download the drivers you want to install..

3. Use winzip or another archive utility to extract those drivers to a directory (usually on the desktop). Don't execute this directory.

4. Use Add/remove hardware, to remove the nvidia card from your system device panel.

5. Reboot.

6. When the computer boots back in and says "new hardware found" point it to the directory you unzipped the new det drivers to. Let it install, then reboot. Va la, new drivers.

Hello Greg,

I just wanted to let you know that the old Elsa driver doesn't support 3ds Max 5. I downloaded and installed Nvidia's new Maxtreme driver and is working fine so far. I don't know if you have some maxtreme settings that I could possibly give a try. If so, please post them. Thank you. BTW the multitexture was already enable.
