Atom
Hello can anyone help me with some materials or how to make one in 3D Max 7 for a copper dome on a house. I've seen these domes everywhere lately on all the new commerical buildings they look great, but trying to apply a material on this has been tough for me. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using ADT for all modeling and Max 7 with MR for rendering with default settings i still dont know how to use GI or Final Gathering so the renderings dont look that realistic. I'm still fairly new to CG so any help at all with mental ray and GI would be great. Thanks Adam
bully712
I think the material on the copper is good, and convincing. Is that a copper roof to the right of the dome?
Atom
Yes the other one is going to be copper to. Both will be copper.
ihabkal
copper is tricky bvecause it changes color with age and the client might have a different perception than you...I am doing a copper dome right now but I am making a simple material yellow only. tell him to e-mail you photos of a similar dome so you know what he has in mind, or google copper dome and send him photos of ones you like to select from, then try to match the one he selects. Also make sure you have reflections, and specular white hot spot. specularity makes or breaks copper domes.
Tim Saunders
i agree with ihab. the material actually looks good. I would just play with boosting up the specular level and maybe even adding a bit of reflection. just a little though. that added to the pointy spire to the right would improve as well.
