seeittoday
Hi Jeff, Regarding films in anamorphic format (16:9), should the submission resolution be 720x576 (in PAL) or should the pixel aspect ratio be corrected to square(1.0) for a correct visualization in the computer? Best regards, Vasco

JFinkell
Jeff, Our team is proposing to submit our entry as a 3D PDF. The benefits of this format are numerous, but in particular it allows us to not only easily embed an animation it also allows us to include the entire model as essentially an interactive rendered element which the user can move around in and through, as well as allowing us to save specific view orientations. Our team believes that this new media option has great potential and would like to demonstrate that for you all through this competition. All that is required to view these 3D PDF files is the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Reader. Please say yes that we can deliver in this media format. I am sure Adobe would be in full support of this, and even be willing to assist you and the judges in any way necessary. Please advise, Obi-wan

Please advise, Obi-wan Hi John, I would like to see the PDF you have put together, but for this current competition I must have everything submitted as indicated. The reason for this is we must be able to deliver the images and animations to our judges in the same way and we need to be able to pull the images and animations into an editing package for the awards ceremony. Cheers, Jeff

quatermain
Hi, I've got a long animation piece which I'd like to submit. I've tried compressing with Sorenson 3 on High and it came out to be nearly 600MB without sound (it is 8.3GB uncompressed at D1 resolution). Does anyone have any tips for compression? Holli
I am double checking for people in my company. If we are a sponsor of the siggraph party, are we eligable to enter the animation/stills contest? Thank you- Holli Alvarado fOCUS360

If we are a sponsor of the siggraph party, are we eligable to enter the animation/stills contest? Thank you- Holli Alvarado fOCUS360 Well I don't have a problem with it as I will not be judging any of them, so as far as I'm concerned there is no conflict of interest. However, not everyone knows that the judges have no vested interest in being biased, so it's really a matter of PR for you guys and the possible public perception of Focus360. I know a few of our other judges have refrained from submitting work as they know that if they won, the potential is there for the win to be contrued as "fixed". JFinkell
Clarification Architectural Visualization Awards - Call for Entries - ONLY 4 Days Left. Is it 4 days left for us to submit our images or 4 days left to send the application to join the competition? I have been assuming the former, but want to be sure. Please advise ASAP, Obi-wan
Jeff Mottle
The 3D awards is not a competition like the Architectural Visualization competition. It is simply an award for the best image and animation of 2005. Once you submit, the images are judged and the top images/animations are announced and the winners will be announced at our SIGGRAPH event. So yes the deadline to submit images/animations is July

Jeff Mottle
I just submitted my file. How can I know u get it or not? Am I suppose to get a feedback? Thanks. The file will automatically download to my server. There are quite a number of people submitting at the moment so everything is queued up. Once your file downloads you will receive a confirmation. nisus
Hi Jeff, I got lots of timeout messages. Failed to upload data to the server File: Reason: The request has timed out. Error Code: 12002 Original image size is +100Mb for two of my images. Rescale will diminish the quality I think. Zipping makes the files -50Mb. What do I do? rgds nisus

Dynedain
While I can accept both PAL and NTSC, the prefered format is NTSC. That still doesn't answer the question if 16x9 Anamorphic NTSC should be converted to standard NTSC.
Jeff Mottle
That still doesn't answer the question if 16x9 Anamorphic NTSC should be converted to standard NTSC. Any format is fine. We will be broadcasting at 16x9 Anamorphic, so any format that is different from this will be re-sized to fit in that format. As we will be playing from a computer we will also broadcast with square pixels. We will make all attempts to preserve original formatting as much as possible. Our judges will receive your original files, or compressed versions therof if you have sent us uncompressed footage.
