carlangas
Hello, monday is the deadline for this proyect and would appreciate any comments on how to improove my rendering. im using max6 and lighttracer. My boat and yacht are models from bosch which came with materials but when rendered they came out real dark, a dark gray. i had to use the self illuminating feature to light them up a bit. any suggestions for that??? thanks all
Tommy L
I would change the sky and lower the contrast/saturation levels. The Dosch models do tend to have dull generic materials as they are usable with so many different renderers. I always change the materials entirely. What render engine do you use? trhoads
What looks most off to me is the water. It looks like the boats are in a pool, rather than an open body of water like a lake or canal.
carlangas
Yes, you're right about the water, here's a pic with the actual marina. I run out of time unfortunately and wasnt able to correct it.
carlangas
Hi all, Its been a little more than a year since I created this thread and my clients have made some recent changes the the project and well, here are the updated images. The old ones were made in max using light tracer and the new ones were done with vray and a whole year of added experience.
trhoads
Looks good. The water looks better than it did before. I recognize all of those people, I just purchased them this morning. A little behind the times I know, I am just getting back into rendering. How do you like working with them?
Ricardo Eloy
Very good. Probably one of the best Light Tracer pics I've ever seen. Congrats!

carlangas
Thanks for the responses Very good. Probably one of the best Light Tracer pics I've ever seen. Congrats! sorry if I didnt express myself clearly....these last two pics are vray, the older ones in the thread are light tracer... Travis, I do like the axyz people I use. I like how easy it is to work with them and the shadow casting and other benefits of 3d models vs 2d. Often they dont look too hot when doing closeups but I like them a lot, its a matter of personal preference I guess but I just dont like 2d pics of people. jafs00
great texture on the roof of the "rancho". care to share how you came up with it? I had a similar texture assigned to a vacation house, i found that if you add a vray displace modifier on it it will make a great difference. carlangas
Sorry Julio for the late reply, I missed your post. anyway, the "Tejas" or rooftiles is just a rooftiles jpg with a strong bump. I usually model my rooftiles nowdsays but since these particular pics are an update to and old project I didnt care to model them...
Brian Cassil
Big improvment on the latter version. I like the 3D people in general but I think they look a lot better when done with a little motion blur.

Hi Brian, Ive never thought of adding motion blurr to peps, do you have a sample image to see what it looks like?
Brian Cassil
Not with 3D ones (I've only used those for animations so far) but here's an image of 2D peeps with some blur.
carlangas
looks nice Brian, should I add the blurr in post?
Brian Cassil
That would be the fastest and most flexible, but slightly less accurate. You can render the people with a mask and use that to select them in post and them just a little motion blur. The problem would be that any reflections and shadows won't be blurred. The other option would be to actually animate them, even a simple slide would work, and add some motion blur to them in 3D. The shadows and reflections will be spot on. Or better yet, if you are using the rigged models with mocap then the arms and legs will be blurred a little more than the torsos because they are moving faster. You could still save a mask for them for tweaking.
