Greg..pls help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Everytime a boot my machine when a fresh day has started it locks up on the XP Prof login screen.

Normal operation is regained after 4 or 5 restarts and then is good as the day I built it.

Its a 2.4 Pentium, P4PE MB, with a Radeon 9800 pro 256, GIG o'ram and 2 Semi-Large HDrives. phew'

I dont know if this can be an issue but can it be dust - just moved house and alot of work is going on e.g. walls being knocked down. And temperature. Seems to do it when its cold?

PS. I've updated my BIOS which did nofink.

Thanks Guys

1) Make sure Windows is completely updated. (Start-Windows Update).

2) Download memtest86. http://www.memtest86.com

3) Run 2-3 passes with the default set of tests. Best to do this before you head to bed at night, as it can take awhile.

Report back if you get an error or not.

Computers like the cold...unless its really humid cold. Its actually been found if you can get the machine running below -40C (thats negative 40 below Celcius) you'll get a performance boost just in the reduced resistances across the main circuits.

So I don't think its the cold.

Do those two stages and report back.
