Hello, Im an archicad user since archicad 6.0 and Ive always used art-lantis render to render my work. Lately Ive discovered the Alias's MAYA and Im allucinated with it, the only problem is that I cant export an archicad file to maya. Ive tryed to export like a 3DS file but this doesnt work niether, actually Ive tryed everything (I hope not). HOW?

Thanks a lot, greetings from Chile, please excuse my english!! :(

Have you tried DWG or DXF? - Maya can import these (you may need to switch the plugin for them on).

The other option is to export as STL (if you can) and use something like Deep explorer to translate the STL files to Maya format. This is the system I use to go from Solidworks to Maya. Also try Deep explorer to translate the 3ds file to Maya format?

There's a 30 day demo at http://www.righthemisphere.com

Hope this helps

Regards

Deri

Save the model as a native Waverfront (obj.) file, which is Alias products (Maya/Studiotools), native format, from ArchiCAD's 3D window just as you would any other 3D format.

I don't frequently use Maya but the last time, I did it was able to import an ArchiCAD model just fine. The only problem is that it looked like it imported it as a single object, and you may have to either explode it or something (maybe it had something to do with layers; I can't be too sure as it was a while back). I wasn't that well-versed enough to know how to go about this but I could tell that it seemed to have preserved the ArchiCAD material allocation for the different geometries.

If all else fails you could always go the Dwg/Dxf route, which I'm also sure Maya accepts, or try a 3D converter like Deep Explorer, or Okino Polytrans translator to convert from any of the many ArchiCAD 3D-export formats to Maya's native format while preserving object identinty and material allocation.
