Brian Cassil
I've never used nurbs for creating terrains, so I can't really speak to that... but I guess the reason I've never gone that route is because I can do everything I need to by using terrain. It's a safe bet.

Brian Cassil
Here's my basic workflow: - Trace contours from civil plan - spread coutour splines in z axis to represent thier proper elevations - add "normalize spline" modifier (lateral distance between vertices should be about the same as the average distance between contours) - select all splines and use the terrain compound object tool - add relax modifier (optional) - add subdivide modifier to create necessary faces where needed for editing. I hope this helps!
