maurocaruana
Hi all, I just starting this project using radiosity for the 1st time. Some thing I noted is that materials really effect all the shadows and reflections. Any help regarding materials and their propoerties for radiosity? Can radiosity be used for large renderings? I posted these two small renderings using white colours for testing radiosity and light.
JamesTaylor
Radiosity can be used on large renderings, but the larger you get you may have memory problems because of the subdivision of the geometry when calculating the lighting solution.
lambros
you can control how color bleeds using the color bleeding slider for the overal scene, but you can also use the Advanced Lighting Override Material as a shell for normal materials to control how specific materials reflect, bleed, and transmit light. I haven't used radiosity many times, but I have used it for interior as well as exterior renders and some flythroughs too (Once you calculate the solution, it is valid for all frames for a flythrough animation - if only the camera moves over time)
maurocaruana
Hi James, Thanks for your reply. I would also like some comments re renderings since it's the 1st time i rendered with Radiosity

For materials i was going to use Radiosity override. Can you help me a bit more please. Thanks
Andrew Schroeder
Hi Mauro, Not to put down Radiosity, but after all my efforts with it, I was happier using Vrayfree. We do use their the full version of Vray inhouse. It's not that I'm a promoter of Vrayfree or anything, just that it's damn easy to use. Check it out sometime just for the sake of comparison. maurocar
Hi guys, I managed to find and learn the material colour bleeding. I just wanted to ask a silly question regarding Radiosity mesh parameters. From my knowledge the radiosity mesh parameters are set depending on the detail of the object and the size of the object, am I right? So that means that I shall control the mesh of each object bylayer? If I have a street I shall put a mesh of 1000mm (metric) and a railing 50mm (metric)?? Andrew I tried to download Vrayfree for Viz 4.2 but I got mixed up which version I have to!!! Is Vray easier than radiosity on VIZ????
maurocaruana
Hi ppl, I just started to experiment for the 1st time with Radiosity overwrite materials. I'm also attaching the materials with UWW mapping using polygons. I am getting strange outcomes from this update rendering. The material on the front facade is Graffiato cladding which is a bit textured. The only materials attached are the yellow cladding and the white cladding on the curved windows. When you have a horizontal face to be mapped, I am using UVW Mapping (face). Any help re mapping?

maurocar
Hi ppl, I am still reading and working on Radiosity and Radiosity override materials. I continued to attach materials and work on them but I am having big problems with Override materials. When I attach one Override material it's ok but than when I create my 2nd override material I get no texture but only the diffuse colour. Really frustrating!!!! In the attached material the only override material is the stone. The other 3 materials, Dark yellow, light yellow and white are standard materials. It's the only way I managed to attch the materials. Please C&C are more than welcome. I would like to improve my rendering!!
