vizwhiz
wow This should be like really hot, hotter Than Arizona ** http://www.boxxtech.com/products/7400.asp "What happens when a workstation company delivers a product that is so unlike anything that has come before it - that it fundamentally changes the user experience? Featuring new AMD64 Multi-core technology, the BOXX 7400 Series workstation offers up to 50% faster rendering performance than single-core workstations. Higher performance per watt provides cooler and quieter operation for a better overall user experience and a higher level of dependability. By offering support for Windows XP x64 Edition, the BOXX 7400 Series workstation assures the ease of transition to Windows 64-bit visual computing applications - you can move at your own pace without concerns for future system obsolescence. Under the hood - dual PCIe x16 graphics, NVIDIA® Quadro SLI technology, up to 16GB of dual-channel system memory - dual gigabit ethernet and upgradeability for up to 5 TB of internal RAID protected storage." ** i want Two ** i am going to look for some benchmarks with This system Randy
Ernest Burden III
Featuring new AMD64 Multi-core technology, the BOXX 7400 Series workstation offers up to 50% faster rendering i want Two Pity that two core = half-again performance boost. Oh, I'm sorry UP TO 50%, suggesting possibly less. Is this a dual-processor MB, so you could have a dual dualcore? That's a nice machine. There is still the opposite option of a massively parallel setup--buying a whole lot of consumer-grade machines to be render slaves.
re:FORM
That is totally daft... 2x processor should give 100% faster performance... not 50%.... hmmm
Crazy Homeless Guy
what exactly is the difference between a dualcore processo and a multithreaded processor?
chuck
a dual core processor has two real chips on it, plugged into one socket. a hyper/multi threading processor has only one chip, divided into two "virtual processors". with the boxx setup, you'd have 4 processors, two on each socket. not sure if each chip is then divided by hyperthreading...anyone know? it would be nice to see vray rendering with 8 buckets... i see it being a great asset for rendering, but that's because our software supports it. seems like a lot of other apps will have to start coding for this. sketchup for instance only uses 25% of my CPU's at any time, atleast thats what windows tells me. chuck
Crazy Homeless Guy
25% for modeling or rendering? ..it is my understanding that most modeling operations can only really be permormed by one processor at a time. so bolean operations and the such do not receive a speed increase by having duals in your system. i assume you mean rendering, then yes, it will have to be coded forit. chuck
25% at the most, modeling or rendering an animation/still. sketchup isn't written to use hyperthreading, so it only sees one of my 4 virtual processors. @last says it really uses more... i'm looking into this freeware app: http://www1.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040528/index.html
