Adehus
Still working on finding a suitable background image... may have to go out and try taking a photograph. All C&C welcome.
STRAT
as a wip it's comming along just dandy. first thing that struck me is the lighting solution - needs to be more contrasty. it looks quite foggy at the mo.
Adehus
Thanks for the input- this is the first render I've done on a new monitor, and I'm just coming to see how out of sync it is with the rest of the world... after viewing the render on another monitor I'm coming to see what you mean about the fogginess. Adehus
All- I'm having a very hard time finding a suitable background to use with this rendering... might anyone have any good resources for this? I've tried taking a photo at a time of day that should match the lighting, but am not able to get anything I'm happy with! Perhaps some tips? The building hasn't got a site yet, so I'm essentially looking to fill the space with something that recedes and doesn't compete with/contrast the house. szi_zsolt
Hi! It looks good, but I would use more variety of plants near the house. ;-)
otacon
Do a yahoo image search for "panorama" and you will find some high res panoramic views, then you can map one on a circular poly and see if that works for a background.
ecastillor
the shadows could use more definition
Adehus
Thanks for the replies, and otacon- great tip w/the yahoo images. I've made some progress... is it working? (this is my first residential exterior).
STRAT
put some bump mapping to those bricks, it'll really make them look more 3d instead of flat as they look now.
Ernest Burden III
Porch light Warm up the entrance with a lamp or two throwing really warm light, maybe even put a few hints of warm light from inside the first floor. By the way, this (interior lights) is easier to do in Photoshop with a light yellow, soft-edged brush set to 'overlay' or 'softlight' mode. Experiment, play with brush transparencies, use the fade (Edit>FadeBrush tool) to play with the strength. Oh, and if you're going to see the moon it would be brighter. pipjor
the thing that really stands out to me is the flowers in the shadow area have the same illumiosity as the flowers in the light...my eye is really drawn to these white flowers...to bad because the house looks nice... Adehus
again, thanks for the input... let me know if you think I was able to put it to use...
Joel_FVD
I think the model and the texturing are very good. Like some of the earlier posts, I think it needs a little more shadow deffinition. Is that a sun behind the house? If it is, I think the image is too dark. If its a moon, then I think the image is too light. Not enough contrast under the upper eaves near those corbels, I think you should see some shadow under there. Hope this helps. Joel
Adehus
Joel- Thanks for the response... getting shadow definition has been tough (FormZ does not have the best rendering solution). I ended up rendering it twice- once with hard shadows, once w/soft shadows, and overlaying them in p'shop. All- I may be beating a dead horse now, but I've posted revisions for C&C. At this point it's just about refinement for my portfolio. Several have made comments about the plant life- does anyone know of good plant model resources that would work w/FormZ?
