Aaron2004
Hey all, I'm going to purchase viz for the design/build company that I work for, but was wondering if it is cheaper or better to buy through a reseller. I can get it for 2000 dollars from the autodesk website...what can a reseller do for me? I live in America, if that makes a difference. Thanks! Brolloks
don't know if it will make a difference. The software is the same I suppose
Aaron2004
Well, I've heard (in this very forum) about the keys going out on the software or something, and I was curious if different resellers will handle probelms like that in different ways. Brolloks
What do you mean by keys?
Chad Warner
He means the license key for the software. Most of the time (in the US anyways, you will either re-license through the autodesk website, or through an autodesk person, so a reseller won't really be of much help there. I would still check with a local reseller, just to see what price they offer.
Tim Nelson
A lot of times they can give you a better price than buying through Autodesk directly. Sometimes they will also throw in some nice freebies. Where I buy my software, they also offer free tech-support, which I don't really use, but its nice to know its there if you need it.
Aaron2004
Well, I've read a recent post about needing to register the software again every now and then.
ihabkal
yeah every time you upgrade anything in your pc, or if you install spyware/fire wall software, or if a trojan horse gets in the system, Viz stops and asks you to reauthorize............ makes for a lot of fun when you need to submit renderings the same day... Crazy Homeless Guy
i think the registration process is identical regardless if you buy it through a reseller or direct. we buy through advanced solutions, i think we get a discount because of the quantity of seats (mainly ADT) that we purchase. ...but when I register,or request a new registration, I contact Autodesk, not my reseller. the difficulty caused by that is directly created by autodesk combatting pirating of their software. Sawyer
Yeah you can try talking to your reseller and getting a better price or talking around. Between 2 dif resellers we found a $700 u.s. price difference for Revit. So it's worth looking around. In 6-7 years I have been working with Autodesk products I think I actually used the reseller support number 2-3 times but its still good to have it. Make sure your reseller actually knows what they are talking about not just some sales people.
Aaron2004
I gave in and bought my copy of VIZ through a reseller. I could have gotten it for $2000 from autodesk, but for the same price I recieved VIZ, plus a 1 year subscription....and I was told that autodesk releases an update to VIZ each year...so I kind of got 2 for the price of 1. Good deal, I think. Thanks for the help! Aaron
