graphic cards and RAM

Recommended Posts

I went today to the computer shop to change my RAM because on the startup it was sending a message that said something about the parity and stuff... well the thing is that I have 1Gig of DDR pc2100 and it still gets loose with 3ds max... for example I start to render something and meanwhile open Photoshop and it says not responding for a while then it runs and then again 'till it opens completely :ngeupset: what do I need? one million Gigas of DDR 800MHZ?

and checking the RAM I told the guy to bring a graphic card wich I don't have by the way I work with the integrated card on the intel motherboard becasue when I open something over Max... winamp for example and I move it it remains like a shadow or something on the max... till I change back to it and it refreshes so what's going on with my PC? will max ever come out for MAC? am I asking for too much? or what wish that someone explain to me how does RAM and Graphic cards AGP, DIRECTX and all that stuff works and what does it has to do with max and rendering... I mean I render and all but I don't know the underground maybe that's why I don't understand what I need or what's wrong... I have a Pentium 4 of 2.4 GHz with 1Gb RAM DDR pc2100 and the integrated video of an INTEL motherboard... thanx and excuse my ignorance!!! orangeshy

I am not the best resource here, but I'll toss my 2 cents in.

I am very curious why you would buy, or want, a computer with 1 gig of ram and an integrated graphics card??? That's really surprising.

I've got 768 mbs or rdram and it's plenty (so far), but I have a Quadro 4 700 gxl graphics card, which is worth almost as much as the ram. I could use something much better, but I can't imagine using an integrated card.

So I'd say get a good card, at least one of the newer Radeon Pros or newer Geforces.

Lastly, I would say buy a Dell next time. I love my Dell's. Never a problem, except the graphic card (mentioned above) fan went out. About 15 hours later I had a technician arrive with a new card and install it - and I live about 40 miles from any major city.

From what I read, the others are great, too. 3DBoxx, Alienware, and some other smaller companies.

Those newer 3DBoxx with the Opteron look particularly sweet!
