creating a real sun

1- Go to create > lights > Omni

& place your omni in any viewport

 

2- Go to Rendering & pick Effects

a window will appear select Lens Effect then ok.

 

3- from the bottom of the window press Pick light

then click on the omni light from any viewport.

 

4- click Load & select sun.lzv from the menu

 

5-apply an environment map then hit render...

You said how to create a 'real' sun.

 

Here are the steps.

 

 

1. Assemble (50 ± 10) x 10 ^ 23 tons of hydrogren in a sufficiently close proximity.

2. Throw a match at it.

2. Get away quick.

3. Let Gravity do it's work.

I'm smart-ass enough to have thought of a similar answer, though I might have gone for the whole 'book of genesis' theme where you start with an omnipotent being, add inspiration...

 

Some would say the two methods are not incompatible.

 

By the way, you can skip step 2
