Raytracing

Does anyone else have the annoying problem of ray-traced shadows falling with a gap between where it should start and where it actually does in the render? e.g. a pole interecting into a wall and the shadow projected not starting from the object but a small but significant distance from it, on the surface the shadow lands on? This problem is occuring using the Scanline renderer.

 

Let me know if you have any ideas
