Looking for practise drawings

Does anybody know where I could find some cad drawings for practising visualisations? I'd also like to find some cad models so I can practise importing into 3D. Are there any sites where I can find source material for practise. Thank you.

hi There, Scott

do The Google search for "house plans" if you are looking residential ideas

Then you can save the Plan images and compare to The Elevations to make

something out of This

just an idea

not sure if you wanted "real" cad dwgs, for residential

There is too much liability to provide anything commercial

Thanks for the reply! How might one develop their skills for commercial visualization? My background is in 3d with no architectural experience, so understanding architectural drawings is a little tricky. Would it be best just to start out practising residential projects until I get a better handle on elevations, etc.? Thanks again for your input.

Scott, i can help you with This

i have 1x building That i designed

small 1-story medical building,

The design was just to show use of the property

i have both 2d and 3d work

it takes a while to understand architectual projects

but it is really fairly simple boxy and etc for the most part

what software are you using?

i model in autocad solids, filelink into VIZ, works for me

There are so many ways to do the same Thing with cad

are you using metric or imperial?

doesnt really matter, but nice to know

**

if you can get your hands on an "Architectural Graphic Standards"

That will help immensely, There are a lot of books more for residential

but i imagine That There are some for commercial work, Too

got to go to work, will contact you later with plans

etc

Right on, I appreciate it Randy, Thanks! I use 3ds Max, and have never touched Autocad (like I said, I'm a multimedia guy). I talked to the coordinator for the Architectural Technology program at the college I graduated from about my interest in archviz, and he seemed intrigued and was willing to supply some CAD drawings and files. Unfortunately he hasn't done so yet and he is hard to get a hold of. It would be beneficial for me to learn Autocad I'm sure, but since I wouldn't actually be designing anything just presenting them, I figure I shoud focus on being able to interpret architectural drawings for modelling in Max, and being able to import .dwg files into Max and tweaking them from there. I'm new at this so let me konw if I'm off base here. Thanks again guys!

hi There

Skauty

a lot of people use the autocad 2d info, import into MAX

and do all of the 3d arch modeling on Top of The 2d Lines

with great results

not me for some reason i cant get The hang of mesh modeling

autocad has good booleeans and file size to go along with It,

but hey let the computer do some work

if This building is Too particular to Arizona let me know

Take some Photos of your local Bldgs send Those along

and i will make up some Elevations and Plans to work off of for you

(of course This will all be eye--ball)

This plan can be divided into 2 offices or remain as one office

**

i can send the dwg files directly to you with larger Images

This project was done from 5 dimensions and 4 photos of the

existing "model" That The client liked so much

i tried to convert the gif files into jpgs couldnt do it

and There is a 19.5 kb limit on uploading GIF files to cgarchitect

just didnt look like anyThing so i finally abandoned That attempt

so here is a link to an online look at the Images

http://www.viz2000.com/proj/html/andy-alma-0.html

dont laugh Too hard This was 4 years ago my 1st camera match

**

let me know if This helps

Thanks

Randy,

thanks alot, I appreciate your help. I don't think the building itself is too particular to Arizona, although the palm trees are a refreshing change of scenery (I live in Northwestern Ontario, Canada). At this point I'm not as concerned about camera matching as I am about just getting a feel for modelling from plans. The floor plans you attahced don't look too overwhelming to figure out, but I've seen some plans that looked like a chaotic mess. If you could send me the dwg files so I can try importing them into Max, along with the larger images that would be great. Thanks. My email address is scotti@tbaytel.net.

P.S. For your first camera match, it looks pretty damn good. Did you use any GI.
