TickerTocker
hello again, This is a project I'm working on these days, exterior images for a residence. I've been using somewhat toned-down settings to get decent, quick renders for testing. For some reason, I've been ending up with these black patches on the wall surfaces that I can't seem to get rid of. I'm posting an example of these here. Can anybody tell me what the problem is? If it helps, I've noticed these patches come up only where two bits of scene geometry meet i.e. at joints or at slab-wall junctions... Here are the render settings
TickerTocker
I'm sorry, perhaps I should have clarified this. I haven't applied a material to the wall surfaces. Right now its just been assigned a basic white colour. Is that what the problem is?
STRAT
sounds like your mesh isnt 'clean' enough. can you post up a wire of just the offending area and surface pls?
djbob
This happens for me when two pieces of geometry are in the same place - for example if two boxes occupy exactly the same space so maybe need to move one of the walls slightly?

ksampath
Hai, i guess you imported the meshes from cad... anyway you can get rid of that by clicking the "faceted" which is in shader basic parameters in material editor.... or by detaching that particular patched surface from the main surface using edit mesh... sam
TickerTocker
I've figured it out. It was a really stupid little mistake on my part. It was happening in an area where the faces of two bits of geometry were perfectly coincident. i had typed in the wrong extrusion value. Sorry to have bothered you with something so trivial, but thank you for all your replies. I'll be sure to post this in the gallery as soon as I'm done with it...
