Andronikos
Archicad & Art-Lantis 4.5 Dual Xeon Compatability? I am thinking of buying a Dual Xeon Pc but I am not sure if the programms that I am using support dual processors? Thanx in advance...
garethace
I tested a lot of software on my dual Pentium III rig a year ago, and Archicad was one of them. I then tested some standard Archicad installations where it was used as a software in work/colleges etc. On single processor P4 rigs. And I would definetly say that my dual P/// rig, with a decent Quadro card kicked butt off the single processor job. Go with the dualie is my advice for Archicad. Mind you AutoCAD is not any much faster with a dual rig, but still, I love being able to run VIZ with a CAD software also, to do most of the modelling. Similarly with ArchiCAD/FormZ adn Artlantis - you can set up a dynamical link between Artlantis and ArchiCAD, and run both simultaneously, so you can safe loads of time stopping programs and openings them up again. plastic
archicad takes no advantage of dual processors. i'm not sure about artlantis, i wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. garethace, your results with the quadro card are strange because until recently archicad had zero hardware acceleration. archicad 8 supports opengl but the implemention is so bad that it's slower than software mode, even with very fast cards and the display quality suffers. plastic
i'm using a dual athlon system. when i work with archicad, cpu usage doesn't exceed 50%, that means the 2nd cpu isn't used at all. archicad is "compatible" with a dual xeon system, it will perfectly run on it, but there is no benefit against a single pentium 4 system with the same cpu speed. Brolloks
I have a 2.4GHz Dual Xeon at work and occasionally run ArchiCad 9 on it. Loading takes forever as well as doing anything in ArchiCad. The rest of the system is as follows. 2Gb RAM, nVidia GeForce FX5200 256MB, WinXP Pro. I haven't bothered to find out why, but it loads a lot slower than on the new P4 3.2GHz Pc's in the office.
