Brian Cassil
I've just spent a fair amount of time looking at different procs for building a dedicated render farm with and I've decided on the dual core amd opterons. They are brand new and are certainly the fastest, and might already have the most "bang for buck" value as well.
STRAT
yup, AMD give better render speed performance, but Intel are far more stable - ie, dont crash as much.
tvc15
My research also shows the multi core opterons are the best bang for the buck. You get twice the speed but only pay for one mobo, OS, hard drive, etc. I'm looking at getting a couple Boxx nodes with dual Opteron 270 processors.
