Brian Cassil
Since my last project log was fun and helpfull (for myself at least) I thought I would do it again, this time on a project that I have a little more time with. Also, I haven't done nearly as many interiors as I would like to have, so input is greatly appreciated. I've been working on the model for about a day now and I'm close to having the majority of the architecture done and I'll post it soon. I've included the CAD floor plan and the sketch that I've used for reference. There are a lot of design decisions being made through the process of the visualization so I've also had designers peering over my shoulder with their input. I don't plan on doing the same view as what is seen in the sketch. I think the new view will be much more exciting.
ecastillor
Looking forward for this...good luck! What software are you going to use?
Brian Cassil
What software are you going to use? Max 7.5 Here's a view of the modeling. From here I'll probably start establishing the lighting. I would rather start on materials but they haven't been selected yet. Neither has the furniture. The glass element near the center (not very easy to see right now) is an aquarium. This is my first chance to do one, and I was excited to find this website which has lots of free .3ds models of fish. Already textured and pretty high detailed. In fact much higher than I need for this. http://toucan.web.infoseek.co.jp/3DCG/3ds/FishModelsE.html
skogskalle
that link is great! ok, maybe you dont need 3d fish for that many projects =) but when you do, its a great resource... I saw they also had some pretty good looking 3d flowers too. thanks! too early to comment on the image now... but Ill try to give some constructive (hopefully) input later on... (atleast, in this project, you wont have me bitchin about your skies
Brian Cassil
Ok, here's the lighting. I hate doing the lighting before I have materials set up because so much depends on what the materials are doing. I have furniture now so I'm modeling it (with the help of a new 3D guy here). Hopefully the Interior Designer will get materials to me soon.

Ernest Burden III
Waht renderer R u using? Its looking good! It's got a Lightscape look to it. Nice. I think getting the lighting set up at this stage is the right thing to do. It means you have an earlier opportunity to get a feel for the final. I get so caught up in process that I often have nothing useful to show, stressing clients.
Brian Cassil
I get so caught up in process that I often have nothing useful to show, stressing clients. I know what you mean by that. Sometimes I get asked "well, what have you been working on?" because they don't see anything that's visually tangible.
Tim Saunders
where you at now b? still working on this one or is it on hold? i think it is often best to start with your lighting before materials, especially with interiors. there has been a time or two wen i think i have some sweet materials all set up, then I add my real lighting, and my materials have gone to ----. Brian Cassil
Yeah, I've been meaning to post the progress on this for a while. I've been busy just keeping my head above water. I've posted the raw rendered image and the PS enhanced one. Hopefully you can tell the difference. I ended up having to get this done in a hurry because the client popped out of nowhere and needed it immediately. So, some of the feautres, like the donor wall in the lower right, are not fully developed in it's design. There are also some improvement I plan on making to the image in the next design revision pass. I think the wood grain is too strong and I need to do some glossy reflections on them. The floor tile needs a little work as well. I'll probably be adding a little more wall art, and some desks behind the glass walls near the center of the image as well.
