diegofer_9
Hi everybody, I am always following the forums but only today I decided to seek help with the attached scene. I've render it a thousand times, with different color or furniture or lighting settings, even with different rendering engines ( this is VRAY free). Can you give me your opinion on what is it that is making this image not so interesting? is it the color scheme? the materials? the modeling? I would greatly appreciate everyone's coments. Thanks!! kaylmyers
I would say it could use the little details here and there. All the elements are there, room, furniture, but no little touches, knick knacks, or decorations. Maybe take a look at your furniture placement and space planning, and its relationship to the camera angle you have chosen. An area rug on part of the floor might break up the darkness and monotony that is the wood. Just suggestions, I'm struggling with this as well (see this forum) and these are things i have learned. -Kayl

diegofer_9
wow, thanks for taking this time to comment. Here is the plan, what do you think? I think that is pretty much the only way around
bokkins
I think its the floor, try to explore more options, also the windows, it seems its taking all the attention, maybe you can soften it with roman blinds or something like it. hope these helped... goodluck! kaylmyers
OK. lets see how this works. And remember these are just suggestions. I tried tracing over your FP but I' think I'll need to explain them to. -Make the carpet larger to accoodate the entire width of the room, making the back half one space instead of two. -Move one of the chairs to the corner and add an automan in front. Get rid of the other chair. -Put two small stools (like the one you have) in front of the fire place so they can be sat on both ways to either enjoy the fire, or convers with the living room. -Move the coffee table into the center of the carpet. -Center the sofa on the carpet, and add another plant in the corner. maybe make the plant taller (6-7') also. -Add a "buffet" table in between living and dining space to split that space up a bit. Add a couple of lamps on it. Again, these are just suggestions for space planning. Everything right now seems like it is pressed up against the left wall. This should bring the room together more. Hope this helps and I didn't overstep my bounds. -Kayl
diegofer_9
Thank you for your crits. how do you guys usually decide how to approach a scene from the point of view of decorating it? do you look at specific examples in mags? trial and error, rendering the scene with multiple options? do you just have the "eye of wisdom" that guides you? Thanks all!

bokkins
try this camera angle also, since your dining table looks great, also this will show your living area. http://www.geocities.com/bokkins/images/loftplan_camera.jpg
kaylmyers
I work for an interior design firm. A good rendering starts with good design. my last piece (again see this forum)looked ok; I swapped out the couch, and I think it greatly improved. Everyhitng has a foundation in design.
