Sketchrender
Hi I have been a user of Formz now for years. I have had no luck with large 2d files even when I have stripped them out of all hatch, and everything that i really don't need. I think it may be time, for me to switch to autocad once and for all. A referencing system is essential for modeling large projects, and formz has not yet seen the light in that respect. Dose anybody have any experience with both, and am i thinking in the right direction? I have not used autocad for 9 years, but saying that is looks very like max in some aspects and user frienly enouugh. I presume i can model in both Solid and face. Is there a problem generally with glass being a 2d face as opposed to a solid say 6 mmm thinknesss, with max and vray? Any advise would be very gratefull as always. thank you for your time Philip kelly
Noise
Autocad is a pain in the arse but, lots of people use it - therefore compatibility is very good. My workflow goes like this - Acad for receiving drawings, refining them, tidying layers etc before importing to Max. 99% of 3D is done in Max, you can still do that in Formz. I personally would not recommend Acad for modeling or 2D drafting because it is a big programme, seriously unintuitive and expensive. From memory, geometry in VRay for glass should have a thickness. hope this helps n
Crazy Homeless Guy
i model in formz and then go to 3dsmax/vray... my glass is always a surface.
Sketchrender
Thanks for the replies. Its working on large projects is my problem. I really need to get my head around the modeling in max then. Max is a vey expensive render at the end of the day, unless you model too. Vray glass........... the vain of my life..I got a model and the glass was triangulated and a 2d face, ie no thinkness, and i could not get it to render correctly, hence my question about the thickness. How do you put a reflective map on your glass? Do you use a sky image in the background when you render your final image ?, as i find in vray it can change the building materials blue if i use it, i am still learning as you can guess? gentlemen thank you very much as always. phil
Crazy Homeless Guy
the majority of the time i composit the sky in photoshop. sometimes i create fake sky planes for the windows to reflect. i also have a hemispherical dome that i use every once in awhile. i have had the same problem with the glass triangulation. not always, but every now and then. the normals are fine, and making it render double sided does not work. if i triangulat it while still in Z, it will render fine.
